Caroline county switches to Maine style corn packing

A large area of sweet corn is harvested in Caroline county as farmers report good returns. Packers pay $3 per ton for corn in the husk. Maryland towns like Harford once dominated canning but Maine and New York styles improved quality. Caroline county packers now use steam cooker methods with syrup or brine, matching top Maryland standards. The industry installs patent machinery and foresees growth as “Maine style” canning expands locally.
