Plane Propeller Kills Dover Area Farmer in Greensborro

John Ander Shulties 36, farmer from Dover area, was killed instantly Sunday when he walked into a whirling plane propeller after alighting in a Greensboro field. He was riding with his nephew Melvin Voshell, who had flown from Dover to Greensboro earlier that day. Funeral services were held at Pilgrim Holiness Church Greensboro, with burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery Sandtown.

Man Shot On Street In Federalsburg

Federalsburg police report a fatal shooting at the busy East Central and Main intersection. James Hill was wounded twice by a lone truck occupant, then helped to Dr. Anderson's office and Easton Hospital before dying. The incident follows alleged Saturday gunplay tied to Hill.

Church Society Attends Laurel Camp

The Peninsula Conference Women's Society of Christian Service held a summer session at the Laurel camp grounds Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The evening meeting at 6 o'clock was presided over by Mrs. Benjamin F. Johnson of Denton, president of the conference society. Mrs. Melvin Wheatley of Crisfield led devotions with missionary and stewardship themes. Special music was by Mrs. F. D. Milbury who gave a brief camp history. Dr. Ida Belle Thomas of Salisbury reviewed the Dover summer school study on Christianity and the Race. Mrs. Harry Menser of Wilmington reviewed the study course on India for the year. The evening address was by Mrs. Oron Smith of Denton on The Sanctity of the Home. Mrs. William F. Finn, of Denton, spoke on the society’s work in small churches.

Schools Of Caroline To Start Sept 3rd

The public schools of Caroline county will open for the new school year September 3. Superintendent W Stewart Fitzgerald announced that all vacancies are filled except two. The county teachers meeting before opening will not be held. From August 26 the Caroline County Draft Board Office will be located in the Primary School Franklin St Denton Maryland.

Caroline County 4-H member Charlotte Ann Lister of Ridgeley won first prize in Maryland University College Park style review for a red, white and blue seersucker school dress she made for a local Garland Lake exhibition. She earns a free Chicago trip next December. Joy Hoffman and Elnora Hoffman of Ridgely won ribbons in the same event.

Caroline Post 29 American Legion Elects New Officers

Caroline County Post 29 American Legion in Denton elected new officers for the coming year at its August meeting. Officials include Commander Williams Wurz and 1st Vice Steve Brown with several Denton residents serving in roles. A crab feast followed, adding 150 Legion members and Auxiliaries, as well as new members. The next meeting September 5 will install officers with state officers present.

Caroline Native To Teach In Austria

Caroline county educator T Wilson Cahall, longtime principal in Hagerstown and Federalsburg, will lead a high and elementary school for the occupation forces in Austria under the War Department for one year starting September 1. He leaves Ridgely for orders soon, after being recommended by Dr. Thomas Pullen.

Southern States Farmers Supply Co Holds Annual Meeting

Farmer-members of Southern States Farmers Supply Co Inc gathered at Caroline High School for their 1945 46 meeting. Harry H. Nuttle chaired. reports showed service store operations at 121 818 dollars and 2 649 patronage savings. 2 new directors were elected. patronage refunds total about 68 million in 1945 46 across Southern States and affiliates. Contests and refreshments followed with new Farm Home Advisory Committee members named.

Dover Latex Workers Share in Company Profit

Emblem Awarded to Chesapeake and Potomac Employee

Grace J. Gelletty of the Denton Maryland office received a one star emblem for five years of service with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. During July one star emblems were awarded to 120 Maryland company employees totaling 1,295 years of service.
