New national bankruptcy law takes effect in Maryland
The new federal bankruptcy law began July 1. Daniel L. Brinton and Thomas F. Hickey of Baltimore were appointed referees in bankruptcy for Maryland by Judge Morris. Brinton says the act supersedes Maryland insolvency laws and that petitions filed since July 1 in circuit courts will be dismissed and refiled before referees. Proceedings before July 1 remain undisturbed. The change aims to abolish state insolvency laws, benefits debtors, reduces fees, preserves creditors’ recoveries, and shifts workload from state circuits to federal courts.

First District Nominations Eye Wickes and Vickers
A Sux correspondent from Chestertown reports Joseph A. Wickes may be considered for the Democratic nomination in the First District though he says he would not accept if offered unanimously. Larrison W. Vickers is also discussed as a potential candidate, though he denies seeking the post. The Baltimore Sunday Herald notes Dr. Barber appears likely for renomination, while Wilbur F. Jackson’s bid is viewed skeptically. Democrats see the fight as nearly won with Col. John Walter Stith favored to defeat any Republican challenger.

The Value of Camp Meetings
The season of camp meetings returns as a link to a past age yet they stand as landmarks. Their practical value for spreading religious truth is doubtful though camp life offers ten days of healthy change. For overworked people it provides a moral outing away from home.
