Preserve Wildlife Cover and Fire Prevention in Maryland

In Maryland the annual spring fires destroy wildlife nesting grounds on farms and forests. District Deputy Game Warden H R Kenney notes a loss on Warrior Mountain near Cumberland. Farmers are urged to keep brush piles confined and avoid burning to protect bobwhite quail, muskrat habitats, and wild ducks while supporting birds and insects critical to agriculture.

Mr and Mrs Charles Veat of New Haven Conn motored here for holidays with sister Mrs James Johnson. Mr Thomas Porter and daughter Mrs Myra Doty of Baltimore spent Easter with Mr C W Adams family. Miss Laura Seely from Golden's College stayed with her parents. Mr G W Adams and children Bernice and Reba visited Baltimore relatives. Miss Marie Parker and parents also Easter guests. A box and shadow social occurred at Woedenhawk School Friday night. Miss Minnie Adams of Wilmington spent Sunday with local relatives.

Powell and Simmons to Lead Atwater Kent Hour April 27

John Powell pianist and composer and William Simmons baritone are guest artists on the Atwater Kent Radio Hour Sunday April 27 at 8 15 EST with the Atwater Kent Concert Orchestra providing orchestral arrangements by director Josef Pasternack and accompaniments. Powell’s program includes his own works and he has international acclaim for treating negro musical themes in a classic modern style. Simmons appears near the end of his fifth year as an Atwater Kent soloist with songs from his radio repertoire and a sequence of pieces performed with orchestra and piano accompaniment. The program includes works by Chopin Albeniz Sibelius and more with titles such as Nocturne in F sharp Etude in G flat and Valse Triste among others. The show travels from coast to coast and beyond, highlighting Powell and Simmons in a broad program of songs and piano and orchestral pieces.
