Canning Stagnation Threatens Maryland Tomato Trade
Maryland tomato canning faces competition from Western states led by California. Maryland's 1913 output tripled California's, but Maryland yields have fallen while Western yields rise. High costs in canning, rising cans and labor keep finished price below production costs, prompting expected production cuts and market curtailment across Maryland packers amid idle canneries and rest for soil.

It ends by reporting a 70,000 bushel sweet potato storage facility being built near Seaford.
