Masons to Hold Annual Banquet Here Next Friday

Temple Lodge No 128 plans an annual banquet at the Masonic Hall in Denton at 7 p m on Friday April 22 with Mrs William Bauernschmidt Baltimore City Public School Association executive secretary to address members and guests. Lanace Moore Brick Hotel proprietor will cater the dinner and an orchestra will provide music followed by a dance until 1 a m. Local Athletes to Compete in Interscholastic Meet

Local high and prep schools prepare for the University of Maryland Interscholastic Meet on May 7 at College Park. The program includes 13 running and field events, a special Maryland Interscholastic Association relay, eight county-only events, varsity clashes, and a freshman meet. Awards include medals, trophies, and gold watches for top scorers.

Gordy Day plans expand Salisbury event in 1932

A Gordy Day celebration in Salisbury on April 23 is expanded to invite the Eastern Shore. The parade begins after 11 AM with county representation, bands, and a large mounted unit. Fire departments join, roast ox and oysters will be served after the parade, and massed band music and talks will follow at Court House Square.

Maryland's Record Is Better In March Traffic Deaths

Maryland reports fifty seven fewer deaths in the first quarter of the year than 1937, a thirty eight percent drop. March fatalities show pedestrians accounting for twenty one of seventy percent, with operators responsible for thirteen percent. County Commissioners Study Special Investigator Issue

Caroline County commissioners refused to act on appointing a crime investigator until state legislation authorizes it and tightened relief funds. Judge Knotts urged curbing crime breeding resorts. The board will not advance welfare payments unless the state comptroller guarantees reimbursement within 30 days.

March Weather Highlights in Maryland and Delaware

Maryland posted its mildest March since 1935 with mean temps around 47.5F across 47 stations and a high 60.5F at Crisfield. Delaware averaged 47.4F from sevente en stations, with Milford recording the month’s high 48.8F. Precipitation ran below normal in both states, Oak land tops monthly rainfall at 3.96 inches in Maryland while Milford led Delaware at 32.49 inches annualized. Snowfall was light overall, Dover reporting up to 5.5 inches.

County Teachers Hold Semi Annual Meeting

All but one of the county's 10 schools were represented at the Caroline County Teachers Association semi annual meeting in Federalsburg. After the banquet T Wilson Cahall presided as toast master while Irvin Smith led group singing with Mrs Albert Wing at the piano. Frances Hackett sang as Miss Simpson spoke of China and Japan and received a corsage of roses. Conferees included Mrs John Stowell and Virgil Moore with remarks by Benjamin Willis and Miss A May Thompson. Roses were later presented to Mrs Willis.

FFA Public Speaking Contest Set At Caroline High School

An FFA public speaking contest will be held at Caroline High School on Wednesday April 20 1938 at 8 pm to select a regional representative to travel to College Park on April 30 for the state competition. The winner earns the right to represent Maryland in the national contest with participating chapters Centreville Sadlersville Church Hill Federalsburg Preston Greensboro and Denton invited. Admission is free and the public is urged to attend.
