Music and camaraderie amid Kenesaw campaign bands

A Chicago Inter Ocean report recalls July 7 1864 near Kenesaw Mountain as Union and Confederate bands swapped tunes for a time. National airs mixed with Dixie and Bonnie Blue Flag, followed by a joint rendition of The Girl I Left Behind Me. Pickets watched as loads of bands on both sides performed in rival harmony before combat resumed.
