School Board Budget Tops Last Year
The Board of Education presented a $2,554,477 budget to the County Commissioners Tuesday with the county share at $805,489. Despite a slight rise from last year, the county is told costs will drop $173 next year due to reduced debt service. Debt service for the coming year is $274,688, about $47,000 less than last year, yet the county’s total requirement climbs to $1,080,177. The increase includes a $17,000 item for a $500 raise for 34 teachers with 25 years or more service and $11,700 for a Ridgely School furnace. Also, bids on courthouse reconstruction were rejected and the project will be rebid. As Roads Board, the group approved a $16,000 bid from Alban Tractor Co. for a self-propelled loader.
