Symphonic Choir Plans Spring Concert at Caroline High

The Seaford Symphonic Choir under Dr. Webster Schmidt presents its second annual Spring Concert at Caroline High School on Monday May 9 at 8 pm. Fifty voices perform Tschaikowsky Nutcracker Suite Gounod Baylons Wave Cowen Green Vale and Vine Clad Mountain excerpts plus light operas songs and Cole Porter and Friml-Agnolucci numbers. Solos by Dr. Schmidt and piano by Mrs. Marie Schmidt accompany. Tickets on sale through Senior Guild of Christ Episcopal and First Methodist Church Denton. limited supply. Proceeds support the sponsoring churches.

Bobcats To Play Cambridge Saturday In Denton Armory

The National Guard Bobcats, Eastern Shore champions, meet Cambridge on Saturday night at 9 15 in the Denton Armory with a 7 45 p m preliminary. This tune up precedes the April 5 playoff with Chestertown in the Mar Del League. The Bobcats boast a 24 5 record and urge fans to attend both games.

WCMD Forestry Series Teases Forest Ranger Program

WCMD presents a six episode forestry series titled Bill Scott Forest Ranger. The next Sunday episode is Storm Over the Forest. Forest Supervisor William E Seeders urges rural listeners to note the spring Forest Fire Danger classification during Farm and Home Hour to aid controlled burns and inform on weather-related fire risk.

Dr. G W Mead Dies After Heart Attack At 59

Dr. Gilbert Wilcox Mead 59 longtime educator and president of Washington College since 1933 died after a heart attack at Kent and Queen Anne's County Hospital Chestertown He had suffered a mild cerebral hemorrhage in 1943 but remained active at his desk until Wednesday Born in Pittsburgh May 7 1889 he held degrees from Allegheny College Columbia University and Birmingham Southern College and served as dean of Birmingham Southern before returning to teaching in public schools and higher education

The Denton Cemetery Association met on March 24 1949 and elected H Hackett Downes president Dr Dawson O George vice president Mrs Ruth Johnson secretary treasurer Dr Dawson George Mark Bryant Mrs P R Fisher Mrs Sophie Kerr Underwood Dr J Robert Rochester H Hackett Downes Mrs Harry H Nuttle J Lester Everagain and Charles W Moore as directors. The group plans to remove underbrush grade unused land hire gardeners and maintain the cemetery at little cost to owners funded by a new sizeable perpetual fund invested in U S Government Bonds. Harold Andrew Dies In Illinois

Harold Andrew of Peoria Illinois formerly of Denton died suddenly at his home on a Sunday. Born near Federalsburg in 1891 he was educated at Denton High School and St Johns College Annapolis class of 1913. He later worked in manual arts and road engineering before serving in World War I with the Ordnance Department.
