Report on Mars Marl Finds in Greensboro Area

Assistant Geologist M W Twitchell of the State Geological Survey reports most marl deposits between Denton and Greensboro are ordinary shell marls with limited road material value. A notable exception is a gravely shell marl near Greensboro that mixes fine quartz gravel, forming a hard concrete like mass suitable for roads. The deposit lies 7 to 12.5 feet below mean tide, with potential to supply cheap road material across the county if further tests confirm extent and harvestability.
