Governor Hyde Opposes Tax Cut Bill in Senate Action
Governor Hyde expressed opposition today to a senate bill aimed at reducing the corporation franchise tax. The bill would cut the tax from 1 dollar per thousand of capital stock to 50 cents and exempt surpluses up to the amount of liabilities, effectively lowering the tax on about 60 percent of business returns. Hyde favored no definite stance until the measure is revised before reaching him for approval. The substitute bill, also on the same subject, was passed by the senate without position.
