Senate engrosses bills to cut state taxes and franchise tax
The Senate has engrossed revenue measures based on Governor Hyde's recommendations to trim state income by about 2.67 million dollars yearly. A substitute for three bills halves the franchise tax and exempts surplus up to liabilities. Other measures cut the direct state tax from 10 to 8 percent and set aside a levy for school certificates interest. Auditor estimates show substantial reductions and potential legal questions on surplus exemptions. Final consideration is set for next week.
