Christie School Forms 4-H Club With 85 Members

The Christie school completed organizing a 4 H club with 85 members. Miss Atkinson announced last Friday. Coaches include William Earl Trickett Miss Violet Horn and Mrs Oliver Sherley. Officers and members listed with roles in president Jewell Neal and others.

Watts High Engineers Run Two-Year Undefeated Streak

Watts Engineers of Watts High School have not lost in two years, with only one defeat to an out of state team. Adair County champions for two seasons, they were once seen as warm up opponents but now command respect. Coach M J Nixon leads the strongest engineer team in the school’s history.

The Stilwell High school band performed Tuesday night in the Westville school auditorium. The event drew a good crowd and the group received 11.60 dollars from proceeds.

The Dr. W. M. McAnally dental office will be closed all next week while Mr. McAnally attends the National Dental Association and Post Graduate in St. Louis.

Dedication Program for Baron Stone School Sept 1938

The dedication program for the new Baron stone school building on Oct 24, 1938 includes music by Stilwell High School Band at 10:00, a welcome by George Hagan at 10:30, a response by C. K. Wells at 10:40, and a dedication address by Congressman Jack Nichols at 11:20. Other items include music by a quartet, introductions by WPA officials, and addresses by John Brown College president John Brown around 1:25 with a benediction to close.

S H S Band names Barbara Jean Carson queen with Donald White as mascot and Raymond McGee as drum major. The Siand Boosters club raises 560 dollars for new uniforms including cap and coat purchase while band trousers are bought by members. Boosters officers include Mrs Norris White president and active members listed with names across three rows in the group photo.

Miss Galelia Robbins a Stilwell High senior was elected football queen for the Indians Tuesday night October 11 announced by superintendent H H Wilson. She will be crowned on Homecoming day in November with attendants from the other classes Barbara Jean Carson Dorothy Tindle and Marilyn Lee Williams.

Diagnostic Clinic for Crippled Children to Be Held in Stilwell

A clinic for examining crippled children will be held Tuesday afternoon Oct 25 at the Stilwell Methodist church from 2 to 4 PM under the Oklahoma Society for Crippled Children and the Oklahoma Commission for Crippled Children. Specialists will direct examinations and advise on remedial treatment for diseases accidents birth defects and post polio effects with invitations extended to all local families.

John Fletcher age 68 prominent Dahlonegah citizen died Friday at his home of heart disease. He was found by his daughter and visiting son in law in the yard. Surviving: wife Julia, son Ben Stilwell, daughters in Tulsa and Stilwell, brothers Jim and Bud. Funeral Saturday at 239 P M at home by Rev J L Brown. Burial New Hope cemetery. Pallbearers named.

Stilwell Band Boosters Booth at Horse and Colt Show

The Stilwell Band Boosters will operate a booth at the Horse and Colt Show on Saturday October 22. Hamburgers pop coffee and ice will be sold and patrons are urged to attend. The Stilwell area enjoyed a beneficial rain Tuesday night followed by a noticeable temperature drop.

Seniors Win Football Queen Vote in Homecoming Contest

The Senior class won the Football Queen election with 7 606 votes while Juniors had 21 006 Sophomores and Freshmen 7 943. Polly Parrott claimed the fountain pen and Catron won groceries. The crowning will be at the Homecoming game in November.

Mrs Margarette H Elizabeth Smith Dies In Ft Smith

Mrs Margarette H Elizabeth Smith age 62 died at her home in Ft Smith after several months illness. Born in Stilwell she lived 14 years in Ft Smith with her husband railroad conductor G Smith. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev Alana Yancey and burial moved to New Hope Cemetery.

County School Notes Red Cross drive in county classrooms

County Chairman of the Junior Red Cross Daim urges every teacher and child to join. Each room would receive the Red Cross Magazine for 1.50 dollars. Applications for free textbooks clothing and shoes for needy schoolchildren are nearing completion. G. M. Hagan, County Superintendent.

Mrs. C. L. Fletcher entertained her Kil Kare bridge club and guests at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs. Cleve Bullette Miss Mariel Bellamy and Miss Euphemia Lee. Oklahoma Turkey Grading School Scheduled in Stillwater

The Second Oklahoma Turkey Grading School will be held in Stillwater on October 27 and 28. Jointly sponsored by the Bureau of Agricultural Economies and the Oklahoma A and M College Poultry Department, the program covers grading dressed turkeys with laboratory work. Instructors include HG Hamann and C A Roberta, licenses issued after exam success, no registration fee, and attendance open to turkey producers, marketers, and others.

School districts seek elections to sell old school buildings

Two districts plan special elections to dispose of obsolete school buildings replaced by WPA projects. Starr completed a new one room stone building while West Peavine will soon have a four room stone house. East Peavine receives a new two room stone structure in the same district.

Three members of the M E Missionary Society met Monday evening at the home of Miss Mildred Lee for a pot luck supper. Twelve members were present.
