Congressman Jack Nichols offers free books on pork and beef preservation from his Washington office. He notes Uncle Sam provides information on successful meat curing and invites readers to request mailings by sending a penny post card with a simple request.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sept. 28 for 5 week old Nancy Lou Doublehead daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Doublehead of Cherry Tree. Roberts funeral home conducted the services. Survived by six brothers Denton Hines Torna Charlie Charley and John Lee and four sisters Jeanetta Lyda Mae Dorothy and Emaline all at home.
District Judge E A Summers of Muskogee presided a one day term of court. Sam Adair Jr pleaded guilty to larceny of livestock and was sentenced to five years. He admitted stealing a horse from Tom Panter and pawning it for five dollars to Otto Robinson. Only one divorce case, M Center vs Mary Center, was heard. A tax levy protest suit against school district No 1 was dismissed. Taxpayers sought to void the ex cas levy, which could have closed the two district schools.
The annual tax assessors meeting for the second congressional district met Tuesday October 3 in Adair county with Mrs. Lula Mae Reynolds presiding. Carl Pate was reelected chairman and Miss Ruby Gingles named secretary treasurer. Attendees included Ural Simmons, Mrs. Simmons, Winkle, Mrs. Gingles and son, deputies from Okmulgee and Sequoyah, A Q O Kirkwood, Pat Ballieu, B D Crane, and Porter from the Oklahoma Tax Commission who explained the new intangible tax laws.

A meeting Tuesday night at the Christian church organized a community singing. Officers elected: President Maurine Dodgen, Vice President Lasca Machesney, Secretary Treasurer Edna Rogers. Meetings set for every Tuesday at 7 o'clock. all interested in singing urged to attend.
The Girl Reserves met Monday evening at Miss Vincent Goodall's home where the sponsor. Officers and names for the club will be decided at the next meeting scheduled for Monday Oct 9 at 7 in Fayola Tackett's home. All high school girls are invited to join.
A maternity clinic will be held in Stilwell on Monday October 9 from 2 p m in the County Health Nurse office. The regular well baby clinic is set for October 12 in the Public Health office from 9 to 12. June Crow RN, notes illness but reports improvement for A D Campbell of Piney and Dave Baker of V, while Mrs Baker’s nee remains unclear.
C. W. Addington Adair county administrator was in Mukogee Monday for a County Administrator District Meeting now comprising eleven counties. The school lunch program was discussed and will begin Monday Oct. 16.
F. S. Holdcroft 71 died after a short illness at his Evansville home. Funeral services were held Sept 28 at 2 PM in the First Methodist Church in Morrow with Rev Jim Latta officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Church under Roberts Funeral Home. Survived by his widow Annie Holdcroft and one son.
President Roosevelt has authorized a 66000 WPA expenditure for a modern bridge over the Poteau River at Poteau. The WPA also plans a 140000 bridge across the same stream at Cameron. Mr and Mrs E J Barber and daughter with Mrs Reed of Ft Smith visited relatives here over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Dempsy Lundy and son Harry of Little Rock were weekend guests.
Crowded conditions at District No. 2 school in Watts will be eased by a new one room stone veneer building. Ron Stephens of the WPA signed final approval for a project costing 4504.32 dollars with 2904 provided by WPA and 1608.32 by the district. Landscaping is planned and the work will employ 24 Adair county men for three months.
State officials report at least 200000 tons of sand stone limestone and granite mined in Oklahoma are being transformed into public buildings with WPA support. The effort has injected about three million dollars into trade channels through digging shaping and construction. Twenty six National Guard armories have been built from the material alongside numerous schools and athletic stadiums noted for durability and design.
Piney Jack Frost spent Saturday night in the vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Adair spent Sunday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Keene of Lyons visit. Miss Opal Akins weekend with Mary Lou Crozier of Stilwell. A. D. Campbell listed sick this week hoping for speedy recovery. Opal Keene of Lyons staying with sister Vera Adair. Erby Spinks of Geneva visited Charlie Spinks and family. Baptizing at Wrights Chapel drew several locals. Vivian Carson visited Hulburt over the weekend.
A $100 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any party or parties stealing or mishandling cattle or other property. Call the local authorities with any tips or evidence regarding the thefts.
Congressman Jack Nichols will return from Washington to visit the district while the Senate debates the neutrality bill. The House will meet twice weekly and recess until the Senate acts on the measure. Nichols plans speeches on the European war while also seeking drouth relief discussions with Agriculture Department and Farm Security Administration officials in Oklahoma.
Robert Koney and his son Roy Finney of Webbers Falls were arraigned before U.S. Commissioner W. H. Martin and pleaded guilty to possession and sale of unlicensed whisky. They admitted selling liquor on September 3 and could not post $500 bonds each. They were transported to the Muskogee federal jail after pleading.
Mr and Mrs Paul Chambers and son and Mr and Mrs J M White attended the Muskogee fair on Sunday. Misses Alice and Cleora Dougherty have returned from a visit with relatives and friends in Pittsburg and other points in Kansas. Mrs M E Chambers returned Sunday to her home in Prairie Grove after visiting here with relatives and friends.
