In a bid to halt water and gas flow from a troubled Angelus well, Clinton and Almy test a cementing plan. They deploy a hemp packed plug device to stop gas agitation, enabling circulation and reintroduction of cement down the casing and up the outside, aiming to seal the upper water strata.
Two diphtheria cases remain under rigid quarantine in the Mexican quarters of Deming, with all other cases cleared. The two affected children arrived from Columbus and Palomas, and health officials urge prompt medical aid for any new signs, noting school attendance continues with safeguards and that closures would be ordered if needed. The health officer assures the public there is no current alarm and details measures to protect community health. The social club and local notices follow, including Mrs M H Caine hosting and Mrs J A Ehrmann traveling to San Francisco.
The Florida Company reports the Florida well reaching 1985 feet in a lead colored formation. If progress continues, they expect near 2000 feet by week’s end. Miss Lucia Hanna of Deming and Hause Harvey of Hurley were solemnly united in marriage at the Episcopal church with Rev. Shermer officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. I. A. Hanna. the groom is an electrician with the China Copper Company. Vera Kennedy and Julian Curtis attended. The couple left for Hurley to begin their home. The Headlight extends congratulations to the couple.
The Fortieth Annual Grand Lodge of the Knights of Pythias ends after two days in Deming with about two hundred delegates. A free Deacon Dubbs play, a banquet at the former French Cafe, and hearty hospitality marked the meeting. Mayor Hamilton and local Deming Lodge No. 20 are thanked. resolutions praise the welcome and cooperation.
Leonard Mims formerly of Deming and son of Mrs Weat married Lucy Ann Gault of Mangum Oklahoma in Tucson on Tuesday September 18 at the M E Church residence of Mrs Ed Henry. The newlyweds will reside in Tucson where the groom works for McAuthor Brow.
