Sunday Fire Destroys Barn of Henry Meyer

Fire gutted the Meyer barn on Sunday night causing about 500 dollars in uninsured loss. Investigators suspect boys smoking near the site as the cause while the family was away all day. The cow was moved to safety with no injuries.

Clark and Tidmore gents furnishing store suffered a burglary over the weekend with an iron bar breaching the back window and entry gained. Several suits, an overcoat, neckwear, and jewelry totaling more than $200 were stolen. this marks a second break-in in under a year.

iNew Corporation to Open 4000 Acres of Land for Sale

The Big 4 Land Company begins surveying the Shull tract eight miles from Deming and plans to sell 4000 acres at 35 40 and 50 dollars per acre. Four hundred forty acre lots will be offered to actual developers with staged payments over one to three years. Offices open Oct 1 in the Baker building, Spruce street and Silver avenue.

Blessing in disguise for alfalfa with turkeys in Kansas

In Artesian valley southwest Kansas farmers faced a grasshopper plague but turned to turkeys to control hoppers. Alfalfa fields irrigated from artesian wells thrived, with John Boucher expanding from 100 turkeys in 1911 to 350 on 100 acres. He reports two tons per cutting and expects $550 to $600 in fall revenue from the birds.

Glover Chapman of Newton Mise writes friend J B Vaught that he will leave soon for Deming and plans to make his permanent home there. Jim Irvine left for California Saturday to join his wife, who is there for her health.
