Buck Kornegay a 35 year old Deming resident was shot to death in a corral at the Kornegay Pride ranch about 50 miles south of the international line near Ascension Mexico. American suspected. Hugh Schurtz Killed In Fall From School Building

Hugh Schurtz aged 18 son of Mr and Mrs Schurtz of South Main street died after a fall from the high school building last evening He was lowered from the roof to paint a class sign when the rope broke He died at the Ladies Hospital during operation The city mourns with his family and friends.

Forti Let Annual Grand Lodge Meet Planned in Deming

Deming prepares for the Forti Let Annual Grand Lodge meeting of the K of B on September 1 with committees set for reception entertainment and duties. The town decorates and promises royal entertainment for K P and Pythian Sisters visitors, with a D C K K ceremony from a Paso delegation and a Deacon Dubbs showing at Broadway Theatre. A banquet is planned for the K of P and Odd Fellows and their ladies, and Rev. J T Redman presides at 10 a m on the 19th.

Mexicans in U S Celebrate Day of Independence

The Mexican community plans celebrations on September 15 and 16 led by Junta Patriotica with a 21-gun salute, Aquino Hall program, and a parade. Girl Scouts supported events, bands join from Ciudad Juarez, and Mayor Hamilton will crown the Queen of the Festival before a grand Armory dance. Gratitude is given to benevolent local merchants for support.

Rodeo Plans Nearing Completion By County Committees

Plans for the Third Annual Rodeo are nearing completion as committees work overtime to finish preparations. The event will feature a county fair with farm and home exhibits. The Baker building on South Silver area is expected to house the event, with a schedule including parades, bronco riding, roping, stock races, and dances. Committees list many women volunteers organizing contests, foods, crafts, and children's activities across September 20 to 22 at Municipal Park and nearby venues.

Man Killed Near Here Possibly Pedro Terrez

The sheriff’s office received a letter from Los Angeles police about a man found dead near the Southern Pacific railway line early Friday morning August 31. A laundry ticket No 2971 yielded the name Pedra Torres or Porrez, but no one knew the man. He appeared Mexican. origin and hometown remain unidentified.

Bud Hughes and Dan Hathaway clash over Juarez escapade

In The Headlight Dan Hathaway reports Bud Hughes was detained in Juarez while chasing a gem in a finger bowl. Bud explains Dan beat him home after a messy night at a local entertainment where flying ashes caused a chicken to react, costing Dan $15. Reduction in Railroad Fares For Grand Lodge and Rodeo

Cementing Efforts Continue At Angelus Well

Work at the Angelus well continues after three cementing attempts failed to seal the water flow. Gas agitation keeps cement from setting as Clinton drills and pumps under high pressure. A 1994 foot depth in the Florida well is noted with the drill entering a hard gray substance as the effort presses on.

Law violators in Luna County face big fines

In Santa Fe the Federal Court hears cases of law violators for liquor offenses. Enrique Corriliio and Mecc onio Evibes, arrested May 16 at Columbus, received 8 months in Leavenworth. Mateo Aguilar Jose Baltier and Foe Estrada, arrested June 28, were given similar sentences. Juan Carreo, arrested July 17 for possession and transport of liquor, was fined 350 and costs on both counts. Auto theft sentences ranged from two to three years. The piece warns that continued neglect may force the feared enforcement.

James O Connell Dies in Santa Fe After Illness

James O Connell of Santa Fe New Mexico died Thursday afternoon at a local hospital after two weeks of illness following surgery for appendicitis which led to peritonitis. He leaves a widow in poor health and five children. Funeral arrangements are handled by the Knights of Columbus with burial expected in Santa Fe. Body shipped by J A Mahoney Co.
