Agent R W Stratton announced the upcoming express packing standards to aid handling of heavier shipments. From December 10 shipments over 26 pounds must use wooden or fiberboard cartons and are not accepted in plain paper. Rules aim to protect goods and create uniform packing rates, with education campaigns planned for shippers and staff.
Deming Chamber of Commerce cites Sunset Limited travel boom and Pacific routes, urging Senator Fall to oppose new passenger tariffs. They argue short line routes and winter tourism would suffer, calling the change Southern Pacific and Santa Fe propaganda, urging a favorable review before winter travel.
At an Indianapolis conference, United Mine Workers officials announce an unavoidable bituminous coal miners strike. G A Young of Deming and Johnny Coleman of Silver City in town Tuesday. Collin Portwood left Wednesday with horses for Alphens Oklo. Cattle shipments from the stock yards continue. A school library started by Gearler Misa Metcalfe. A lively children's party at the school house Saturday honoring Loyall Jackson Eunie Mae Portwood and Leon Portwood of Santa Rita. About 60 were present. Ice cream and cake served by mothers. Tables decorated with chrysanthemums and ferns. Don’t forget the sheet and pillow case dance Saturday night at Igan hall.
John C. O Leary once in Deming faced hardship yet forged a living through risk. He bought out Phil McLaughlin with a $1000 debt, then repaid by showing a cancelled note six months later as he built a local business amid a wary town. Deming’s fortunes, he says, are not dead yet. Deputy Shavit Lee Caldwell of Grant County visited on official business.
A county Red Cross volunteer drive meeting led by Dr. Swops outlined districting for solicitors to raise funds. The drive runs from November end to December 6 with a target of 500, plus half of memberships to headquarters, and church cooperation is emphasized for the anniversary armistice date.

Fairies elephants and an Al G Horner circus will tour Deming with a lionized parade and animal pageant featuring queens kings and exotic beasts. President Wilson appeals to the nation to back the third Red Cross drive from November 2 to 11. The Majestic theatre presented its first vaudeville show under Manager W W Wilcox and Levy Bros with three high class turns. A comedy juggler a cross talk duo and a ventriloquist like spinner act drew strong audience interest amid complaints about the dance hall trade hurdles. Future Wednesday performances aim to raise attendance and ticket prices from 26 to 60 cents.
Paul Henry, son of Rev. Avi Mra Henry, arrived in Doming this week to visit his parents for a short time. He and Mrs. Henry were seen together as they attended local engagements and social events.
