Eming Men Return From Nat s Rifle Meet

Capt Sage Lieut Poe Cratchett Major Ely and Allen Crotchett returned from Camp Perry Ohio after a month at the national rifle meet. The group reported the course was the hardest they had taken and praised Camp Perry as a model range. They noted royal treatment and personal and team success, with a warm homecoming awaiting them. Open Meeting Planned by Women's Club Oct 15 at Moir Home

The Women's Club executive committee met with President Mrs Moir to finalize plans for an open reception next Monday Oct 15 at 8 PM at Mrs Moir's home. The event welcomes last year's members and prospective new members with a program of vocal and piano solos readings and a musical reading.

The O. E. 8 Club gathered at Mrs. G. H. Young's on South Tin Tuesday afternoon with 124 doughnuts and coffee served. Deming Delegates Attend Atlantic and Pacific Highway Meeting

Sam Skidmore and C. C. Bassett from the Deming chamber attended the Atlantic and Pacific Highway association meeting in Socorro on October 10. Hidalgo County was represented by Coles of Lordsburg chamber. The state group seeks federal aid to improve the highway and unify the Atlantic and Pacific route in New Mexico.

Mrs Mary Frohlich Dies After Short Illness

Mrs Mary Frohlich wife of Herman Frohlich died at Ladien Hospital after a week as a patient Her funeral was held at Holy Church with Father Van Goethem officiating Interment was in Mountainview Cemetery She was born in France aged 60 and had lived in Mexico fifteen years before moving here six years ago She is survived by her husband and a son from a former marriage who lives in Holland Mr Frohlich receives sympathy from friends here and in Hanover

Sam Presley Hurt in Ranch Horse Incident

Sam Presley of the Wantel ranch west of the city was severely injured yesterday morning when a horse he was riding fell on him. He was knocked unconscious and remained so when Dr. J. C. Hatcher attended at about 7 o clock.

State highway bonds fetch record premium in New Mexico sale

State Treasurer Warren Graham sold 500000 dollars of highway bonds to Bosworth Chanute & Co and Bankers Trust Co of New York. The joint bid brought 10495 dollars over par plus accrued interest. Bonds mature in 1952 with option to retire in 1932. interest at five percent. Bidders totaled 16 from across the country.

Cattleman Shot by Thieves Across San Simon Valley

Dr J G Hatcher aided by Dr Crocker operated on John Cameron of Indian Springs AK in the San Simon valley after he was shot with a 30 30 rifle by fence thieves. Cameron, who had earlier found thieves digging up buried fencing, was taken to Lordsburg for treatment and is in bad condition.

Former El Paso Man Sentenced at Deming

L Hill formerly of El Paso and official of the defunct Lordsburg State bank surrendered to county officials and pleaded guilty to failing to enter a $25 000 deposit for the Bonney Mining Company of Lordsburg. Judge Ryan sentenced him to one to five years in the state penitentiary after he appeared with attorney Tom Lea. The Lordsburg bank failed on July 29 1991.

Pringle Buys Kought Ranch Near Deming

Merle Pringle of Hondale has purchased the L. O. Tucker ranch one and a quarter miles from Deming and plans to move his family there soon. He has run a chicken ranch at Hondale and will expand the operation.

Sailor Sprinkle to Visit Deming on Inspection Tour

Captain Lester A Sprinkle senior instructor of the New Mexico National Guard will visit Deming within two weeks for a drill formation during his official call. Kerr and Rogers relocate their Nash Studebaker and Chevrolet dealership from Pine and Gold to East Spruce Street a block east of the post office. The old quarters were too small for proper car displays and they were neighbors of the Headlight, a move the town residents lament.

Deming Loads First Car Load of Tomatoes

The first car load of tomatoes was loaded last Thursday at the Hondale cannery. The Mimbres Valley Growers Association expects to pack about 6000 cases this season, or roughly 150 600 cans. The crop is down due to June heat and a scald affecting plants.
