Report from Florida notes the well reached 2011 feet by afternoon with drilling accelerating after earlier caprock drift. Prospectors expect to strike pay within 200 to 250 feet below caprock as confidence remains high. They offer coal, cable, and tools for sale to fund deeper operations.
Capt Sage Lieut Poe Cratchett Major Ely and Allen Crotchett returned from Camp Perry Ohio after a month at the national rifle meet. The group reported the course was the hardest they had taken and praised Camp Perry as a model range. They noted royal treatment and personal and team success, with a warm homecoming awaiting them. The Women's Club executive committee met with President Mrs Moir to finalize plans for an open reception next Monday Oct 15 at 8 PM at Mrs Moir's home. The event welcomes last year's members and prospective new members with a program of vocal and piano solos readings and a musical reading.
The O. E. 8 Club gathered at Mrs. G. H. Young's on South Tin Tuesday afternoon with 124 doughnuts and coffee served. Members listed include Nora Maud Steed Weatherred Olsen Fielder McKinney Nunn Jacobsen Crawford Clark Brooks Bassett Sherman Algier Doolittle Griffin and Margaret Crawford. The group plans to meet with Mrs Olsen on Silver Ave Tuesday afternoon Oct 23. Miss Nora Maud Steed and Margaret Crawford noted among attendees. Mrs Job hosted the Junior HB I P A at the Tabernacle Tuesday night with ice cream and cake. The Women’s Club will present a musical program at the High School during Education Week in November.

Maple Street Church of Christ lists Bible school at 9 45 with classes and literature for all ages. Services include 11 o clock communion and sermon on The Joy of the Christian Life, 2 30 Junior Christian Endeavor, 6 30 Intermediate and Senior Endeavors, 7 30 worship with indirect transformation by the Gospel. Wednesday features bible study and prayer, choir rehearsal. Sunday school at 9 80 preaching at 11 a m and 7 80 p m. B Y P A seniors and juniors 6 30 mid week prayer 7 30. The pastor spoke Ecclesiastes in the morning and How a Soul is Saved in the evening. The Lord's Supper was observed after the morning sermon.
The Young Women's Class of the Baptist Sunday school met Sunday morning and organized with officers: President Miss Lucy Cobb, 1st vice president Mrs Frank Daniel, 2nd vice president Mrs M H Cain, Secretary and Treasurer Miss Church, Teacher Mrs J A Griffin. Miss Barr of the Freedmen missions board spoke Sunday night and attended a Monday mission meeting at Mrs J D Henry's home. she was entertained by Mrs C F Sage while in Deming.
Sam Skidmore and C. C. Bassett from the Deming chamber attended the Atlantic and Pacific Highway association meeting in Socorro on October 10. Hidalgo County was represented by Coles of Lordsburg chamber. The state group seeks federal aid to improve the highway and unify the Atlantic and Pacific route in New Mexico.

The first issue of the Hot Springs Maverick arrives at The Headtight. Editor F C Marshall publishes five pages of reading matter with strong local advertising. Julian Curtis and Clash Devin departed Wednesday for Los Angeles. John Harvey's brother Davis joins the Rose Room orchestra there.
Mrs Mary Frohlich wife of Herman Frohlich died at Ladien Hospital after a week as a patient Her funeral was held at Holy Church with Father Van Goethem officiating Interment was in Mountainview Cemetery She was born in France aged 60 and had lived in Mexico fifteen years before moving here six years ago She is survived by her husband and a son from a former marriage who lives in Holland Mr Frohlich receives sympathy from friends here and in Hanover
Sam Presley of the Wantel ranch west of the city was severely injured yesterday morning when a horse he was riding fell on him. He was knocked unconscious and remained so when Dr. J. C. Hatcher attended at about 7 o clock.
After Marfa M B conference, Rev. J. T. Redmon, pastor of Deming M B Church, was retained for another year. His work has been praised as the church and community express gladness at his continued leadership.
A big dance is scheduled for tomorrow at the Armory with a five piece orchestra providing the music. The event is listed in the Headlight Want Ads.
Letter discusses federal control costs versus private operation for Class I railroads. It argues the 714 million deficit reflects two cost pools: government operation and total war transportation. Figures cite Interstate Commerce Commission accounting rules and a 906 million rental.
State Treasurer Warren Graham sold 500000 dollars of highway bonds to Bosworth Chanute & Co and Bankers Trust Co of New York. The joint bid brought 10495 dollars over par plus accrued interest. Bonds mature in 1952 with option to retire in 1932. interest at five percent. Bidders totaled 16 from across the country.
Dr J G Hatcher aided by Dr Crocker operated on John Cameron of Indian Springs AK in the San Simon valley after he was shot with a 30 30 rifle by fence thieves. Cameron, who had earlier found thieves digging up buried fencing, was taken to Lordsburg for treatment and is in bad condition.
L Hill formerly of El Paso and official of the defunct Lordsburg State bank surrendered to county officials and pleaded guilty to failing to enter a $25 000 deposit for the Bonney Mining Company of Lordsburg. Judge Ryan sentenced him to one to five years in the state penitentiary after he appeared with attorney Tom Lea. The Lordsburg bank failed on July 29 1991.
Merle Pringle of Hondale has purchased the L. O. Tucker ranch one and a quarter miles from Deming and plans to move his family there soon. He has run a chicken ranch at Hondale and will expand the operation.
Captain Lester A Sprinkle senior instructor of the New Mexico National Guard will visit Deming within two weeks for a drill formation during his official call. Edward Pennington attended the funeral of Howard H Betts in Silver City on October 4. Betts, a long time Silver City resident and prominent businessman, prompted a day of citywide business暂停. Kerr and Rogers relocate their Nash Studebaker and Chevrolet dealership from Pine and Gold to East Spruce Street a block east of the post office. The old quarters were too small for proper car displays and they were neighbors of the Headlight, a move the town residents lament.
The first car load of tomatoes was loaded last Thursday at the Hondale cannery. The Mimbres Valley Growers Association expects to pack about 6000 cases this season, or roughly 150 600 cans. The crop is down due to June heat and a scald affecting plants.
