The Luna County Sunday School Association schedules its annual meeting in Deming on Monday and Tuesday December 15 and 16 with a full two day program. Delegates are urged to register with secretary C. H. Raymond and attend sessions at the Presbyterian, Christian and Methodist churches.
The State Commissioner of Public Lands R. P. Ervien will conduct a land sale on December 8 drawing nationwide attention. The event has prompted international interest and inquiries from banks and foreign capital.

The Woman's Club meets at Adelphi club Dee 2 at 8 p m with an Art and Literature class program. Piano solos by Misa Wamel and Esther Bolich, a talk on Art by Miss Jansen, a vocal trio by the Misses Sullivan, and a paper by Mrs F Browning. Choral class gathers Tuesday evening Dec 2 from 7 20 p m at Mrs Moir home. White Elephant Bazaar planned for Crystal Theatre Dec 19 and 16 with a Street Fair. further details to come.
E L Todd owns eighty acres north of Deming near the roundhouse and has finished a weir to the first stratum and is leveling the land. He will build a residence and begin extensive gardening next season. He plans 100 acres of onions and 100 acres of beans. The land has been in the family for about thirty years. The Luna County Sunday School Convention will convene in Deming December 15 and 16 with a large attendance expected.
A major mining deal in the Pinos Altos district will close today as the Cleveland group of zinc claims, owned by George H. Utter, transfer to Empire Zinc, a New Jersey Zinc subsidiary. Reported consideration ranges around 200 000 dollars, with terms private.
The deal involves 300000 dollars in cash with a check for Pi os amount. Mesare W D Murry and T L Lowe promoted the deal and brokered agreement. C T Brown of Socorro New Mexico, Empire representative, aided after months of effort. The property includes the Cleveland group six patented claims and the Utter group seven unpatented claims nine miles north of Silver City in the Pinos Altos mining district. Interest exists in erecting a large concentrator and funding an automobile highway cost to connect Silver City to the mines.
Mr. Miesse reports a successful eastern trip and says stockholders of the Mimbreg Valley Alfalfa Farms Co. appropriated 15000 in month to push developments on the Miesse tract for early completion. By spring 6000 acres will be ready to seed to alfalfa with 2500 already prepared. The first house nears completion for George Longest. the hotel and first town store are under construction.
Albino Gamboa, an employee of the Chino Copper Company at Hurley, fell into a concentrate bin last Wednesday morning. His body was found later buried in concentrates and water. A coroner's jury ruled accidental death. Gamboa was a stepson of Alex Labeso and survived by his mother.
M L Cadwallader of El Paso visits A L Taylor in the Mimbres Valley and gives guidance on orchard care. He recommends fall pruning to 18 24 inches and burying the trunks until spring, square planting for 256 trees per acre, 20 foot spacing for standards with dwarfs mid way, and careful irrigation plus soil cultivation after each watering. He notes Mimbres Valley soils are excellent for fruit and standard pears bear in six to eight years, dwarfs in three to four.
The post office department urges patrons to mail gifts early due to higher parcel post volume. Mark packages not to be opened until Christmas, ensure secure wrapping, and buy stamps in advance. Do not seal packages. follow these steps for six weeks to ease handling and save time.
City crews near completion of a water main two miles east to feed the local cemetery. The new line removes the old windmill and tank setup and enables easier water use for grounds maintenance and parking.
