Deming residents packed streets to view the Al G Barnes circus as it arrived Tuesday morning. An immense parade drew a large crowd around town with horses and animals groomed and fed, riders and wagons in bright costumes, and school closed for the day so children could enjoy the spectacle.
Mrs W B Tuttie of Macksville Kansas reports V B Tuttie 44 and his 18 year old son Harold last seen September 30 in Deming New Mexico. They left Macksville on September 22 driving a 1916 Ford touring car with engine 10 757 and Kansas tag 264 916. They traveled toward Oklahoma oil fields and then Texas. The father worn oil burner patent sold to H Kearnes. They carried camping gear and a tent. Mr Tuttie tall 5 feet 8 1 2 inches, blue eyes, brown hair, left thumb missing. Harold 5 feet 9 inches, freckled. Any information welcomed by Mrs Tuttie.
Wednesday night the Florida well reached 2096 feet and the interval was in a pink formation. Drilling slowed by Mr Bumpua’s illness but he has recovered and work will continue. At the Angelus well Mr Clinton fitted the high pressure pump hoping to improve circulation before recementing. He later achieved circulation but high pressure broke some connections, delaying cementing. operations to resume cementing were planned.
The B Y P A held the Sunday night service at the Baptist Tabernacle during Rev. Geo Job’s absence. He and his wife and baby attended the State Convention at Las Vegas. Jol a were joined at Las Cruces by Rev. and Mrs. Gross. Participants included Mr. T M Sumter and Misses Esther Witt Ethel Cooper Georgia Karr and Mesdamen Biter and Brooks.
Governor James F. Hinkle attended the Jefferson Memorial Services in El Paso on Thursday, arrived in Deming last evening at :50, spent the night, and left this morning for Santa Fe.
Hood Mr and Mrs J B Hood of Fort Worth have purchased the Park Hotel from Miss Blom's estate with transfer to occur once abstracts and papers by J A Mahoney and H C Brown are prepared. The new owners pledge to maintain high standards and retain staff led by Morris Wilson, whose twelve years at the Park aided profitability and community standing.
The doctors in charge of Mrs Henry Meyer, who has been very ill, found it necessary last week to yank blood transfusion. Mr Meyer immediately volunteered and the necessary pint of blood was taken from him. The operation is dangerous, yet he recovered, and an El Paso nurse in Deming reports it is the first and only successful operation of its kind ever performed there.
William D. Saltiel, Chicago attorney, will lecture November 13 at the High Sehkoo Auditorium on the subject Patrick Brown Politician. The lecture will begin at 7 30 p m.
Freeholders and church members met on West Pine Thursday afternoon with Mrs Upton. The W M S of the ME church gathered at the Tabernacle, led by J A Farrow on Jehovah Depends Upon Intercessory. Topics covered prayers for missions and children.
The Salvation Army requests discarded clothing and old shoes for those in need. Call or mail a postal card to arrange pickup of donation items.
Mayor R F Hamilton calls on all Deming residents to refrain from work from 10 to 12 on November 12 1923 to join a parade and ceremonies on the Court House lawn and to attend the 7 30 reception at the Deming Armory for Ex Service men and their families, marking Armistice Day observances.
Deming Woman's Club gains room on W Pine Street from Mrs Liepold formerly used by Standard Tailors. The group plans to stage How the Club was Started with eighteen club ladies taking part. The November 5 meeting at Mrs E T Love featured An Afternoon In Japan with chrysanthemums and Japanese parasols.
Red Darling, of Kinnear and Hines Drug, was injured when a Hereford Texas tourist driving from Hereford to Phoenix struck him on Gold Street. He suffered a broken leg near the hip and a badly cut arm, received emergency care from Dr. Vickers, then was taken to his parents home. The community expresses sympathy for the injured youth.
Arrangements completed yesterday for the local cavalry football team to play the State Teachers’ College eleven in Suvey City next Friday November 16. Management expects a strong lineup and boosters look for a victory. The team will travel by auto, leaving at noon and returning after the game.
A Wednesday afternoon gathering honored Miss MM Olcott on her eighty third birthday with about a dozen old friends in attendance. Mesdames J H Brown and KT Love served refreshments, hosted by Misses Betty and Margaret Love and Ester Robinson.
The Iadien of the Presbyterian church will host a cafeteria dinner and bazaar on Thursday, December 6. A wide selection of tasty foods will be served and many beautiful and woeful items will be on sale.
Theede and Mr G H Young were unanimously elected to fill the office of second vice president in the organization. The vote was decisive, with all members voting in favor and the meeting noting readiness for forthcoming duties.
Mr and Mrs D F Weatherred and Mr and Mrs J A Griffin with three Grif fin children went quail hunting Sunday. In a mistaken shot Griffin wounded Weatherred in the left eye as birds flushed. Initial fears of eye loss eased but the accident is deplorable and unintentional. Weatherred bears the incident with good spirit.
The Rotary Club of Deming was organized last Friday afternoon by G A Martin governor of the eighth district with a charter membership of twenty five. Mr Martin spoke on plans and purpose, by laws were adopted and A W Pollard elected president. A nominating committee named officers including J Kelly secretary treasurer C F Sage directors E D Martin and Dr J G Moir with F L Gilmore as song teacher. Regular luncheons set for Fridays at 12 10 p m. Charter members list includes Dr F D Vickers Charles Schoepf E F D Martin E M Godden K W Kissick Gus Wehmhaner M J Moran Albert Field J A Mushoney Dr G H Young Dr J G Moir C F Sage F L Gilmore Roy Nunn C Skidmore Nick Castaros C Bassett Walter Clark Tefien Lindauer G D Robinson A J Tidmore Walker White and C B Bassett.
The student body enjoyed a bie all school party at the Armory with games and stunts and religious refreshments of cider and doughnuts. High School football players thank the Athletic Board for new red and blue sweaters with large numbers identifying players from the sidelines. Chicago attorney Wm. D. Saltiel will deliver the second talk in the series, Michael Brown Politician, with four musical numbers by the school orchestra and Glee Club. Extra seats arranged for Tuesday Nov 18 at 7 40 in the High School.
Lorine Bleving age 12 years 6 months eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Grundy Blevina died October 31 at the home of her parents at St Francisville La Her death is attributed to a ruptured appendix The Blevins family were old time residents of Deming.
The Liodes Camp Fire girls met at Grace Hume's home on Thursday evening. Invitations are extended to their mothers for a ceremonial meeting to be held at Wild Barracks' home next Thursday.
Friday afternoon a civic football doubleheader featured a girls game full of end runs by Bonnie Clark and tackles by Margaret Irvin. Bessie West ran 75 yards for the lone touchdown in the first quarter, giving the Senior Junior eleven a 6-0 victory. The Troop C N M M N G team defeated the Wildcats 7-0 in the second game, with Landis Burns and Floyd Barrett delivering hard plunges and a solid Cavalry line.
Robbers entered the Sage home Tuesday afternoon while Mr and Mrs Sage were at the circus. Mrs Sage found the house ransacked with dressers emptied and beds torn. A solid gold engraved watch a long chain and a jeweled Masonic pin with Mr Sage’s name were stolen. police suspect the burglar lingered inside to examine old papers and bills.
Beginning next Wednesday night the 1dth there will be evangelistic services at Maple Street Church of Christ at Maple and Copper Aves. The preacher will be Mr. T A Philips of Lordsburg, minister of the Lordsburg Christian church, not a professional evangelist, with no high pressure methods. Everyone is invited to attend.
