Florida Oil to Begin Drilling East of Town

Florida Oil Company of Deering plans drilling soon on property east of Deming with a standard rig to be erected within two weeks. John W. Clark states stock funds will be used only for drilling and related costs, with no promotion stock. Ecologists reported favorable results and directors will follow their advice. Clark invites local investors to back the project, asserting belief in finding oil and possibly more wells.

Luna County Tax Collection Ranks And Figures

Figures from county treasurers and the state tax commission show 1919 tax collections through September 30 with Chaves and McKinley missing 1918 data. Lea leads at 92.84 percent while Rio Arriba trails at 68.19 percent. Eddy Dona Ana Otero Union Luna and others show varied results across the state. G. Lon Barksdale Goes to Long Beach Cal

A. O. Barksdale, long in ill health, left this week for Long Beach California to enter a sanatorium for treatment. He spent several weeks near Springs New Mexico before the move, with his physician believing California offers greater benefit.

New Revenue Officer Appointed for Local District

Walter Sproat becomes division deputy of the internal revenue office overseeing Luna Grant Dona Ana and Hidalgo counties with Deming as headquarters. Appointed October 28 he plans to move his wife and children to Deming once a suitable home is found. he previously practiced law in Wichita Kos.

Formation of Athletic Association Discussed

A meeting of those interested in local athletic development was held at the armory. About 20 attended and decided to organize an athletic association linked to the Luna County Community Service Association. High school teams, railroad teams, alumni, and other local teams may join. The group will set schedules, select personnel, and establish practice rights to benefit all organizations under the association.

Miracle Man at Princess theater two day showing

The Miracle Man adaptation by Frank L Packard and directed by George Loane Tucker will screen at the Princess for two days next week Tuesday and Wednesday. The drama follows a Chinatown crook scheme around a healing patriarch and a transformative arc for Burke and King ending with remorse and romance. Mrs. L. A. Hall and daughter Alice stay at their ranch for two weeks.

Local Couple Seeks Operation For Wife At Hospital

A. Wilkinson of Steeple Rock north of Silver City brought Mrs Wilkinson to the hospital for an operation performed Monday. The patient is recovering satisfactorily. Wilkinson, formerly a valley resident, farmed near Deming and left Luna county about seven years ago to engage in the cattle business.

Claims Must Be Filed Without Delay At Camp Cody

The claims board led by Col. George W. Biegler Captain Robert Neyland and Major A Palen urges immediate filing of all damage or loss claims arising from Camp Cody occupation. Five year repeat wins El Paso Phoenix race

Flagh B. Miller of Phoenix drove a Pope-Hartford 640.8 mile race in 13 hours 10 minutes to win the El Paso Phoenix event, leading all laps. R. A. Durie Las Cruces Buick finished second, W. J. Navy recruiter at El Paso offers help to enlistment efforts

Wives of Ranchmen Form Social Society in District

An informal group of wives of local stockmen formed in this district and held its first meeting at Mrs Omer Gibsons West Pine Street home. Refreshments were served and a pleasant social hour followed. The next meeting is planned at Mrs Garnett Gibsons home. Mrs Young Bounds shows steady recovery after treatment at Lathe Hospital. Bassett has returned after a hunting trip.

Great Franklin entertains at Majestic with mind reading and prophecies

The Great Franklin impressed a Deming audience with mind reading as he predicted an aviation camp within 60 days oil and gas discovery within a year new stores to meet demand and railroad shops by May 1. He urged patience and hope for Deming’s future while promising agricultural and irrigation growth after resource realization.

Halloween Social At Mrs Hodson's House

The Missionary Society of the M. E. Church South held a Halloween party at Mrs E T Hodson 612 South Nickel Avenue. Guests wore sheets and pumpkin decorations, played apple bidding and string chewing for marshmallows, and created wax cat figures with toothpicks. Refreshments of chicken sandwiches salad coffee and candies followed as 35 ladies praised the hosts.

Birthday Party for Martin Wehmhonor Spry Halloween Gatherings

The 10th birthday of Martin Wehmhonor was celebrated at his parents home Thursday afternoon from 4 30 to 6 30. Halloween decorations filled the rooms as 32 children enjoyed games outside and indoors. Vaudeville show pleases at Majestic theatre Wednesday

The Majestic theatre welcomed a strong vaudeville bill on Wednesday night with applause for contortionist, a performing dog, and a song and dance artist. Manager W W Wilcox announced no full program change each Wednesday as acts travel from San Francisco toward the Levy circuit’s eastern limits, stopping in Deming briefly.

The Junior High School Mirror is issued by the 8B Class under Miss Lucile Holt. The first number features bright snappy articles and school gossip aimed at pupils, with G. A. McGrammery and R. J. Reynolds Tol company represented in the report.

Magnolia Petroleum To Locate in Deming

Magnolia Petroleum plans to establish tanks and offices in Deming as a distributing plant serving the district. Site work begins on block 17 with buildings to follow, and a storage plant is planned for Silver City. The project will extend Magnolia’s footprint in New Mexico alongside other Texas, Continental, and Rio Grande oil companies.

Scoville Revival Draws Largest Bartlesville Crowd Yet

Dr Charles Reign Scoville led three revival meetings in Bartlesville Oklahoma drawing more than 960 worshippers at the main tabernacle and filling all seats as the campaign enters its third week. The event drew converts including prominent locals and even a former gang member, with organizers predicting record crowds for Oklahoma. Red Cross Drive Aims To Reach $500 In Luma County

The Red Cross drive to raise Luma county’s $500 quota began Wednesday with the ladies’ organization covering the residence section. Business district collections remain, expected to finish by week’s end. The drive closes next Tuesday, the armistice anniversary, with belief the goal will be oversubscribed. Figures will be announced early next week after outside districts report.

High Lights In Coal Strike

Representatives of striking coal miners urged withdrawal of injunctions against officers of the miners organizations, but the government refused. Judge Ames ruled the strike violated the law. the matter will be litigated in court. Judge Anderson issued a restraining order returnable tomorrow.

Joe McQuade Visits Bilthry Doe in Deming

Joe McQuade, a former Deming boy, spent the week in Deming renting his sisters Mrs Jas A Kealy and Mrs HO Dunes Re. They had gone to Tucson to be with his mother Mrs Sarah Hibatore, then planned to return to New York to rejoin the army. He served on the border in 1916 with the New Mexico haley.
