After two years in Deming, Mahan steps down from his position in local schools to take a new role in Greenville Indiana. The transfer ends his two year assignment and places him in a different school administration setting.

He has been there several months and expects to return home soon. He was laid up for three weeks after an auto wreck, but otherwise has had no major injuries in the war. James formerly lived in Deming with his father and worked in the Western Transfer business.

Lieutenant Lindauer Visiting Father in Deming

Ligant Sam Lindauer is visiting his father in Deming and awaiting his brother Herman Lindauer’s return from overseas within days. He will later go to California to resume work with a banking house and join the Navy reserve. He previously sought Army service but was rejected for eyesight. He served in Washington on food administration duties and was named chief cable tensor, gaining close contact with European events. He read the terms of Austria’s ceasefire and the German surrender. Summer School To Aid Students In City

The educational board announces a six week summer school starting Monday for pupils who failed grades. Teachers Miss Lucile Holt and Miss Maria Stevens will instruct, with another to be named. Tuition is 8 dollars for grammar grades and 10 dollars for the fifth school. Home study is encouraged and travel to Riverside and Los Angeles is noted for a later trip by Capt. and Mrs. H. G. Bush and Ed Gotten.
