Bright future in store for Deming

Wednesday night the chamber of commerce and the boosters club held a joint meeting and banquet at the community house dining parlore and reception rooms about 100 attended. Dr Swope acted as toast master and introduced speakers while Clyde Ely announced the boosters club would support the chamber by helping fund the secretary position.

Dodge Bros. Refute Price Reductions On Cars

A message to Deming Dodge dealers states there has been no price cut and none planned. The note from Dodge Bros. to Snodgress Motor Co. denies any reduction, urges dealers to inform customers that reports of price cuts are false.

Jose Holgin Punctures Countryman With Knife

A stabbing affray occurred Thursday in the eastern part of town. Jose Holgin stabbed Jesus Menlez twice in the breast after a dispute over a love affair. A doctor dressed the wounds and warned serious outcomes depend on possible complications.

Southern Pacific Announces Round Trip Summer Rates

Special round trip summer fares listed by Southern Pacific to Pacific coast points and other destinations in the United States and Canada. Tickets on sale June 1 to September 30, 1921 with final return October 31, 1921. Rates include Deming to Los Angeles 58.97, to San Diego 58.0, to San Francisco 78.41, to Portland 104.33, and to Seattle 110.80. Yellowstone Park tour 91.26 with a four and a half day conducted trip priced at 54 including meals and lodging, about a 26 percent fare reduction overall.

Hoosier reunion in Albuquerque proclaims better to live in New Mexico

At Robinson Park Albuquerque, 300 to 400 former Indiana residents gathered for their annual reunion. Organizers report the Indiana association now lists about 600 members with several new names added at the meeting. Community singing featured melodies such as On the Banks of the Wabash and Back Home Again in Indiana.

State Health Association Formed Under Swope Leadership

Albuquerque Berald reports the New Mexico Health Officers' Association organized at a Chamber smoker with Dr. L D Swope of Deming elected president and Dr. G H Luckett of Santa Fe as secretary. A committee including Dr. T P Martin of Taos and Dr. F B Gray of Santa Fe will draft by laws. A nurses conference followed at the university chemistry lab.

Crawford Struck By Auto and Slightly Injured

W. W. Crawford was struck by a automobile last Friday evening while crossing the street. He sustained only slight head and scalp wounds from glass and was taken to a doctor's office. He has been in feeble health for years due to a prior accident while drilling a well and is currently able to be about.

Howard Returns Home With a French Bride

Carl Howard came back Saturday night from France after discharge from the army following the armistice. He had been with the Red Cross since then, and he will settle in Deming with his French bride. He described distressing conditions in France especially Paris where over 600,000 people were unemployed, mostly mechanics.

R L Barton of Tarpon Springs Fla dies Wednesday at a local hospital after two years as a health seeker. Funeral services were at Mahoney mortuary with Rev William Sickels officiating. He is survived by a wife and child in Tarpon, Fla.

Library Benefit Play A Success from Lane County

A benefit performance of the comedy When a Feller Needs a Friend at the Rialto drew a well filled audience Saturday night and earned strong receipts for the Lane County Library Association. The cast received enthusiastic applause and crowds urged a Monday revival. A Tuesday show in Columbus faced publicity limits but the work still raised funds for the library.
