Easter Service Cantata Planned at Methodist Church

The choir of the Methodist church prepares the cantata The Easter Alleluia by Hegger to be performed at the tabernacle Sunday evening April 1. A full program will be distributed in the paper next week.

Chautauqua Postponed by Red Cliff group in Deming

M S Nord chautauqua committee chair reports Red Cliff Chautauqua postponement of their Deming appearance from April to a date next Fall. Also notes barber shop move near Manhattan Cafe site and continued patronage from locals. St Patrick party hosted by Mrs Bassett and Hadeon featured high scores for Mrs Sage and Mr Schoepf. Woman's Club Meeting Sets Election Date Change

Last Friday afternoon the Women s Club changed the officer election date from the third Friday in May to the first Friday. An excellent program followed with Mya Bickford presiding featuring piano solos Springtime Tulip by Mrs Morgan and Unspoken Words by Miss Emily Lures, plus papers on The Zuni Indians Panay The Missions of New Mexico and Chopin Grieg. This afternoon the group will discuss clean up day under Mrs Vickers direction. The Music Department will meet next Friday with a program including piano solos by Mrs Mullady, papers on Chopin and Grieg by Mrs Russel Cooper, and a ladies chorus.

Curran Family’s Newspaper Roots Reach Across States

AES Curran, son of the founder of the Deming Headlight in 1883, left Deming with his family as a child and moved to Clovis New Mexico where he ran a local paper before selling it. He is en route to California likely to reenter the newspaper field, marking a return to his birthplace and early roots in journalism.

Cambray Woman's Club Social Meeting on St Patrick Day

The Cambray vicinity Woman's Club met at Mrs. I. O. Beaty's home on St. Patrick's Day with 24 members and two guests from El Paso. Husbands joined for a noon luncheon and green decorations. Mrs Beaty, aided by Mrs. Sam T Clark and Misses Jonnie Hanlin and Vera Hollenbach, presided over toasts and entertainment. Meeting adjourned for a session next month at the Club headquarters led by President Mrs. S. W. Spivey.

The regular W C T U meeting at the Meth dist Tabernacle on March 20 included devotions by Mrs. Mathews and an entertaining program by Mrs. A Siler’s committee. Camp Fire Girls Meet in City, Sunday Program

Camp Fire Girls of the city plan a Sunday gathering March 26 at the Christian church. Rev Brown will deliver an interesting talk and there will be a special program by the fire. The High School contest starts at 3 PM with many students expected though illness prevents full presentation. Patrons are invited to attend.

Mrs R Hon received word from Mrs Frederick Winn singing in Denver would be broadcast. In Denver the voice was heard by Mr and Mrs Hon and Mr and Mrs Harry Gloyd at Terry's Garage wireless setup. They listened at 7 30 and heard their friend’s singing clearly from 760 miles away, including The Rose of Picardy. Mrs Winn, a music instructor at Silvers City Normal School, is well known locally for teaching here last fall and winter.
