Chapman Pierce Couple Married in Columbus

Miss Hattie Nellie Chapman and C. Pierce of Columbus wed Monday in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Z. Moore. He is a Lower Mimbres Valley farmer and she taught in Columbus. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Gibson of Talia.

Mimbres Valley Farmers' Association Opens Oil Tank Sale

The association unloaded its first car of fuel oil into an 18000 gallon underground tank by gravity. No. 2 oil retails at 74 cents while 88-40 sells at 64 cents to farmers with fuel oil engines. Last Saturday 1903 gallons of No. 2 were sold. Daily sales average over $100. total stock paid in nears $8000 with profits of 3 to 8 cents per gallon.

New Mexico Bets on Own Road Bond Deal

New Mexico will purchase its own road bonds using the permanent school fund after eastern buyers balked at par. The plan gives the highway commission 120000 for county road construction while securing safe income for the school fund. Officials argued higher rates offered by banks were unreliable long term, and settling for bonds serves the greatest good for the state.

Rew Saddlery and Harness Store and Williams & Co have purchased Nord haus & Sons Co harness stock and moved to a new Silver Avenue building. The new firm, with two practical workmen, has served New Mexico for over 16 years and invites all to call and become acquainted.

Deputy Sheriff Denies Outrage Reports From Mexico

P. A. Hilliard deputy sheriff returned from Chihuahua Mexico stating he traveled overland to El Paso. He reports Chihuahua faces shortages of sugar flour salt and other essentials and finds no truth to reports of rebels outraging women during his time in the district.

Ten Tons to the Acre for Season

Paul J. Case reports second cutting of alfalfa yields near ten tons per acre for the season with earlier cuttings averaging about 1.75 tons and some acres above two tons. He notes a ton and a half per acre across the field is likely this time. Case says valley farmers can reach ten tons per acre per season and much of his old alfalfa will do so this season. He has sold yields so far at 18 dollars per ton. T. J. Brown of Hachite is named U S Commissioner, succeeding Jesse B. Hall, and is on a month long coast vacation with his wife.

New School Building Planned by Red Mountain Society

The Red Mountain Literary Society pushes public improvement plans for a new four acre site offered by G J Chandler at the NW corner of Sect 8 Twp 245 R10W. Luna County trustees back the project with about 1400 dollars for a concrete block building and essentials, aiming a fall term opening and model rural education with athletic grounds and a school garden.
