Fourth of July Celebration Draws Large Crowd

A July Fourth celebration drew a large turnout with athletics, a baseball game, dancing, and swimming events. A Mexican team played the regular Demifrg team, 13 to 4, and Art Dwyer impressed at third. About 400 attendees enjoyed picnics, speeches, races, and river swimming before a safe departure in the late afternoon.

Methodist Ladies Meet for Social and Literary Session

The Methodist ladies held a Thursday afternoon social and literary meeting at 716 South Platinum, hosted by Mrs. Jos E Dieudonne. A Pledge Day program featured scripture read by Mrs. Mathews, a Stewardship talk by Mrs. A J Greene, and songs by Mrs. Farrow. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Dieudonne with Mrss Rogers and Greene assisting. nine members attended along with four chai t members.

Model Auto Tourists Camp at Deming New Mexico

One of the finest automobile camp grounds in the southwest is run by H. J. Kerns in Deming New Mexico. He has spent about 16000 on the camp ground construction and offers 30 private apartments with electric lights and running hot and cold water. Shower baths for patrons and concrete water cooled restrooms for men and women are provided.

W C T U Meeting Highlights Liberty Bell Talk

The W C T U met at Mrs F Peterson’s home at 219 W Pine St on Tuesday afternoon. The group heard a letter from State Secretary Mrs Bird, a tribute to soldiers, and excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. A single monthly meeting schedule was set for summer with ice cream and chocolate cake served.

Walter Clark to Wed Helen Harrington in Santa Fe

Walter Clark of Deming will wed Miss Helen Harrington of Santa Fe on Saturday evening, then depart for a honeymoon to the Grand Canyon and California. Harrington, a former Deming High School home economics teacher, is highly regarded. Clark, a Deming businessman and county commissioner, is praised for his leadership and community standing. The Headlight wishes the couple prosperity and welcomes the bride to the city.

Miss Barrow Weds in Barberton Ohio

Miss Mary Monica Barrow formerly employed by Drs F D Vickers and J Moran married June 28 in St Augustine's church Barberton Ohio to Joseph E Shoemaker. The Barrow family notes a large local turnout with many gifts as the couple start life together in Barberton.

Cavalry Camp July Plan For 1st Squadron Detachment

Troop C and Headquarters Detachment of the 1st Squadron 111th Cavalry plan a hike on July 28 with a camp about a mile and a half above Swarts. Autos will transport riders from Deming in three detachments starting after noon, at six, and at 8:30 Saturday evening. Meas sergeant Jeff Davis will supervise meal preparation to ensure menu quality and quantity. Parents and friends may join as guests, with arrangements to entertain them on Sunday to be announced later.

B Y B U Meeting Delayed. New Officers Elected

The B Y B U met at 2 o'clock on July 1 with nineteen in attendance. The social planned for the first Friday of the month was postponed for another month. New officers were elected. Everyone is welcome and urged to attend.

Deming’s Angelus oil well produced a larger flow than before with oil spilling up the pipe like foam from a beer. Foreman Mr Clinton expects cementing complete by two weeks and bail-out soon. Stockholders oppose Santa Fe Springs move, preferring continued drilling here. The well site near Deming drew local interest amid a busy city boxing night and suburban club picnic notes.

Mrs. Anna Walker plans Los Angeles and Portland visits before further trips while Mrs. Emma Duff visits Culver City Wheeling and Pauls Valley with her daughters. Mrs. 0 B Howell covers the hospital in Duff’s absence. Gift drive for the hospital reaches over 160 dollars and a fall fruit collection is proposed.

Maple Street Church of Christ Weekly Events and Reunion

Gene Blau, 77, Confederate veteran and Virginia native, recently returned after 18 months away, greeted by friends in Deming. He works as a brick mason and visited Seattle Walsh Nome Alaska during absence and joined the Amundsen Arctic Expedition.

Lawn Supper Last Saturday At Sherman's Home

Miss Margarite Moran directed a lawn supper and swimming party at Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sherman’s lawn in honor of Miss Wandra Pollard. Guests included Flora Marshall, Mary Gertrude Winnamon, and others with a luncheon of sandwiches salads olives deviled eggs pickles iced tea and ice cream. The Christian Endeavor of the Presbyterian church held a social at Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Love's home on South Copney last Friday evening. Florida Well Oil Showings Spur Lease Rush

The Florida well, delayed by minor mishaps, plans to resume drilling next Monday after casing is set. Oil showings were the best yet, with a pay sand likely soon, so leases will rise in price starting July 16. buyers are urged to act now to secure current low rates before market liquidation.

Four prairie schooner families with riders and trails crossed toward Mexico from Montissie Utah, seeking new homes. After seven weeks on the road they reached this final region, spending about $3 per person on the journey.
