No C S Pledges Will Be Sought At Community Service Meeting

A community meeting at the armory resulted in a five member Community Service committee replacing nine and the armory being left under the armory board appointed by Governor Mechem. The pool remains self supporting with no pledges planned for next year, and the organization shows no debt. The armory was turned over to the armory board and the building will host community activities with access through the board.

G O P Primary To Name Delegates At County Convention

Clyde Earl Ely precinct chairman calls a precinct primary in Precinct No 1 at the armory on Wednesday August 10 at 7 p m to elect delegates to the Republican county convention August 13. C J Kelly and A A Temke issue the call for delegates to attend the state convention at Santa Fe August 18 to nominate a U S senator. Luna county will send eight delegates to the state convention.

Co-operative Store Closes Doors After Writ of Attachment

The Co-operative grocery on North Gold avenue shut its doors Tuesday after James A. Kinnear served a writ of attachment on stock and fixtures to recover unpaid rent. J F P Doderer, trustee, prepared to wind up the firm under an early year trust deed, but the writ halted those plans.

Deming Pioneer Prossley Allen Dies in Santa Ana

Deming pioneer Prossley Allen died at his Santa Ana home last week at age 84. He moved to Deming in 1884 and opened a store with N. A. Bolich as manager. He is survived by two daughters, one married to Col. J. W. Carter of Silver City, and the other the widow of Joe Sheridan, former mine inspector and former editor of the Silver City Enterprise.

Florida Oil Co to Raise 3000 for Drilling Start

Directors of the Florida Oil Co met Tuesday night to review bids for 1800 feet of 8 inch pipe needed to complete the well northwest of town. The cost is about 3009 dollars including setting, with a margin for future drilling. The company plans to raise 3000 dollars by selling leases and stock, with receipts issued by W W Wilcox, vice president, at the Majestic Theatre building. All funds will go to drilling and equipment. no debt exists.

Bishop Schuler to Administer Sacrament in Deming

The Right Reverend Anthony J. Schuler, Catholic bishop of El Paso Texas, will arrive in Deming on Sunday August 14 to administer the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Family and St Ann churches on Monday the Feast of the Assumption.

Telephone rate increases listed by Mountain States

The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co filed rate increases at the corporation commission to take effect September 2. They forecast about 20,600 dollars in additional annual revenue, but say it will not cover a 1920 deficit of 53,000 dollars. Rates rise in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, Clovis, Las Cruces, Deming, Tucumcari, Alamogordo, and other exchanges with higher one party, two party, and four party service charges, plus several service substitutions and eliminations.

Boy Scouts to use Deming pool two hours weekly

The Community Service committee met Wednesday evening and granted the Boy Scouts of Deming pool access for two hours on one afternoon each week for the rest of the season. The pool will be returned with restrictions lifted and boys allowed to swim un clothed as described by Doc Cain in Minaistip.

National Council of Catholic Men Formed in Deming

Father Van Goethem of the Church of the Holy Family organized a local branch of the National Council of Catholic Men this week. A message from Bishop A J Schuler of El Paso urged the formation and outlined plans focusing on rehabilitation and stabilization in the country. The Deming work will be led by Father Van Goethem and associates, advancing the council’s postwar aims.

Heavy rains topple adobe hotel in Animas

Santa Fe reports that a two story adobe hotel in Animas Hilaga county collapsed last Thursday after unprecedented rains. No injuries occurred as occupants fled before the crash. Nash J. Williams says the region had the heaviest rainfall seen by longtime residents since 1882. Dr G H Young sails for California with wife and daughter Marquita. Crawford Dies in Deming After Illness and Injury
