Col J P McGrorty died at 89 from exposure after wandering from Deming Wednesday night. He owned stock in Deming National Bank and First National Bank of El Paso and held valuable real estate. Funeral services were held Sunday at St Luke's in Deming with Masonic rites, remains shipped to Danville Kentucky for interment.

Major T. C. Macauley commander of Taliafero Field Fort Worth accompanied by a mechanic flew over Deming Sunday afternoon in a DeHaviland aircraft equipped with a 480 horsepower Liberty engine. They aimed for a record trip from Fort Worth to San Diego but a landing at Sweetwater halted progress. They refueled at Fort Bliss and continued to Teagueon Arizona where a mishap delayed the journey until Monday morning.

Washington January 21 the house passed a bill amending the homestead law to shorten the required residence period for settlers in mountain regions.
