New County Officials Take Up Duties in Board Meeting

Newly elected county commissioners met at 10 oclock to reorganize the board and approve bonds. County Clerk Myrtle Williams administered the oath and the board elected James A. Rhea as permanent chairman with Walter Clark and A C Powell as members. County officers Bond approvals followed as they mapped plans for the year.

Wheatley Hon Nuptials on New Years Night

Miss Ruth Hon of Copper Ave and Henry W Wheatley wed New Year night at the Methodist parsonage with Rev J H Walker presiding. The bride, an accomplished pianist, has many local friends, and Wheatley has served as principal of Benning High School for four years.

Thompson to Transfer to Springfield Missouri

R E Thompson manager of the Deming Ice and Electric Co will move to Springfield Missouri on January 15 to oversee the power plant there. K W Kissick will assume the Deming local plant post transferring from Sheridan Wyoming where he served as chief engineer. The write up welcomes Kissick and notes Thompson's long service and the community’s regret at his departure.

The Pythian Sisters held installation for the coming year Monday night. Progress Report From Flowida Gil Well Near Dewing

Word from the Florida well about six miles northwest of Dewing says progress is satisfactory. The depth reached is 570 feet with casing keeping out water and the drillers are pounding away. Company members feel encouraged and expect the drill to strike pay soon.

Tracey Family Opens Cafe and Grocery in Deming

Mrs W Tracey and daughters start a cafe and grocery at 11B Pine St beside Kieths confectionary selling home made candies. Neighbors wish them success as the Tracey family previously ran a noted confectionery in this region. Mrs J A Flowers and children return to Deming after months in San Bernardino Os d ack, where Mr Flowers ran a barber shop.

Woman's Club Notes Holiday Socials and Meetings

The Woman's Club reports a December 28 program by the Musical Department and announces upcoming events. Executive Board meets at Mrs. Moir’s home. Choral Club resumes January 8 at 7 30 pm for new joiners. A five dollar prize offers for a paper on local improvement with Feb 1 deadline. Mr Griffin Jr received thanks for a $100 gift for the poor from Mahoney draw.

The Suburban Club Holiday Meeting Highlights

The Suburban Club held a delightful day with seasonally themed refreshments and beautifully decorated rooms. Decorations were by Mesdames Hodson Hawk Cot and Stratton, with Santa pleasing children and adults alike. Two visitors from Albuquerque and California judged a gift contest won by Mrs. Holiday. next meeting is January 23 to plan a three day serving course.

Wampus Kitties Edge Paso In Windy New Year Game

The New Year football clash on the high school field ended in a close with wind causing fumbles. Osburn kicked a drop through, Weaver scored, Stamp and Kelly added two more for the Kitties while Deming led the Troop C lineup.

Russell and Anderson Wedding in Episcopal Church

Miss May Anderson married Tom Russell on Saturday December 30 at the Episcopal church performed by Rev. L. S. Sheimer. Both are employed by Murray and Layne Co. The Headlight offers best wishes. The W G T A met at 2 pm Tuesday at the Christian church with Bert Harwood giving an address on the Toronto convention. The next meeting will be at the Baptist Tabernacle Tuesday January 16.
