Farmers form cooperative oil buying group in Deming

More than 50 farmers and business men took shares of the $25 000 stock as the Farmers Co operative Oil Buying Association met at the Deming Courthouse to perfect its organization. KE E Osborn was elected president H E Van Sickle secretary and George W McCann treasurer with a board including John Hand S J Smith Hugh Ramsey and H E Van Sickle. The stock limit was raised to 50 shares per member and 75 percent must be held by actual oil users. The group plans to incorporate with $25 000 capital, offer $10 shares, and install large oil storage tanks while canvassing for subscriptions and securing favorable prices for distillate and crude oil.

Lawder and Kelly wed quietly in Roswell plans home

Samuel Reed Lawder and Mrs. Mary Pauline Kelly married by Rev. Charles L. Overstreet at the home of Mrs. J W Robinson. They will reside in Roswell, New Mexico after January 10. In other notes, Mrs. Harry Snyder and her two children were aboard the steamship City of Topeka during its Eureka to San Francisco trip, but all are reported none the worse.

Home Plot Company Starts 2000 Acre Deming Development

The Home Plot Company plans a Deming area project across 2000 acres within 2.5 miles of the town. Each 20 acre tract will have an electric irrigation pump, reinforced fencing, a dirt reservoir, and a four room cement brick bungalow. Tracts will be offered with small cash down and balance in five to ten years, designed for ready farming.

Tepary Bean Highlights Drought Tolerance and Yields

Prof. R. W. Clothier previews a bulletin on dry farming in the arid Southwest featuring the tepary bean. Tested since 1909 with Papago seed parents, the crop yields 75 to 90 days, ripens during drought, and produced 775 pounds per acre in a season with limited rainfall versus pink beans at 100 pounds. The Arizona Experiment Station records three years of average tepary yields at 473 pounds per acre, prompting a call for nutritive comparisons with pink beans.

New Mexico Printer Invents Ink Fountain

Deming printer C. H. Raymond received both Canadian and United States patents for a combined long and short ink fountain that adapts to full or small form work. The device eases platen and cylinder press ink fountain problems and is expected to boost color press work demand. Working models are being manufactured. Carl Peugh underwent an appendicitis operation performed by Drs Swope Reid and Vickers.

Pioneer Business Man Dies Sunday Deming Leader

Henry L. Nordhaus head of H. Nordhaus & Sons Co. died at 7 10 p m Sunday at his Spruce street home from pulmonary edema. He was 56, born in New Orleans, settled in Deming in 1887, built a clothing and dry goods business with his sons, survived by wife two sons Frank L Morris A daughter Mrs Hallie N Tucker three brothers sisters and mother. Burial Wednesday at home with Methodist ministers officiating. Deming loses a longtime influential citizen and large funeral crowd attended.
