A Sunday gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Curt Rambo's seven miles south of Henderson featured a perilous upper mountain stunt. Rambo raised a pole with a hook and unearthed eleven rattlesnakes from a crevice, then two more live snakes were found higher up. the haul included eight rattlers in another nest. Rambo kills snakes for their fat and oil used for rheumatism. Also noted is Mr. R. Wuppermann of St. Louis visiting to study livestock feeding methods while in Deming, advising locals to contact Parish's Spot-Cash Stove.
A community banquet featured oyster cocktails baked duck and side dishes with E A Layne and F L Gillmore supplying the duck. Honorary memberships were awarded to E A Gagne and F L Gillmore. Officers and active members are listed, with a dance at the Armory planned to raise funds for on duty injury expenses.
Davis, who came to Deming from Colorado about three months ago, passed a string of bad checks on local merchants while employed at the Terry Garage. After a report to the sheriff, telegraphic notice from Colorado led to Davis being tracked. The sheriff plans to bring him back overland. Santa Fe officials and a chamber of commerce guest praised the cooperative effort and Deming’s water purity.
About 25 players signed for the Deming Ball Club with Pierce Hughes as potential coach. The district representative from Santa Fe is helping to shape state law. Boas and a later meeting set for March 5 at the Chamber of Commerce to confirm coaching and club leadership. Officers elected include Art Dwyer president and W. D. Sinney secretary treasurer. Skidmore and Whitmore elected to an entertainment committee with McFadden and others named.

The Woman's Club held an interesting afternoon session last Friday under the Community department. The group will meet this afternoon at the Armory in a Washington party setting. Next Friday at 3 o'clock the Susie department, led by Mrs. Morgan, will present a program featuring Sacred music by the Chours, a Garden Lullaby, and talks including What the Hart Church Did For Music by Rev. L. S. Shermer. Selected solos will be sung by Donald Buch with Mrs. Mary Le Donaldson and the ensemble performing The Wilderness. TibMibar-ie appears to be an early arrangement of the anthem from around 1820.
The Suburban club will meet Tuesday February 27 at the home of Mrs H S Jacobs. Each attendee is asked to bring two quilt blocks or material for making a quilt.
Deming Lodge No 20 of the Knights of Pythias marks its ninth anniversary with an open meeting at the lodge hall by the Princess Theatre starting at 8 o'clock. The program includes music and speeches, followed by a banquet. Guests from Lordsburg Columbus Hurley Fort Bayard and Silver City are expected. total attendance near 250.
Members of the Maple Street Church of Christ heard two turned missionaries from Asuncion, Paraguay, speak for over an hour in the morning and about two hours at night. Mrs. Morton outlined Paraguay’s history, conditions, and outlook, drawing in attendees from the large audience. Friday the Senior Endeavor Society planned a business and social gathering at Miss Ruth Mensday’s East Spruce street home. Church Night, newly started midweek, shows growing success with women managing tables and a short program after a 30 minute choir performance.
A one day rodeo in Deming next Friday March the 2nd features Bonnie Gray the world champion rider in stunts with broncos and wild steers. Bonnie a University of Idaho graduate, nurse and Army Tennis trophy winner, recounts a string of daring feats and travels. A dance by Greene's Modern Orchestra follows at 8 o'clock to raise funds for the 1923 Deming Base Ball Club and its summer needs.
Last Saturday night Corona Sherlock and pupils staged a varied program of musical numbers and a movie revue at Rivlta Theatre. Despite hard work and expense, turnout was lighter than hoped. Net proceeds were dedicated to the Library fund. Participants praised as fine, with standout dancers readers singers and musicians. The piece notes strong local talent and compares favorably with larger circuits, urging continued support.
Mrs. Lucinda Hicks a long time Deming resident died February 3 in Salinas California at her daughter Mrs. M P Stenson home Her Tremaine were brought back by Mrs Stenson and burial held at the Hicks ranch about 55 miles up the Mimbrea River from Deming
At a recent Lana County Medical Society gathering the next year’s officers were elected. R. Hoffman’s son was chosen president, with G. Moir named vice president and P. N. Steed as secretary-treasurer. A fragmentary local ad suggests a classified sale.
The community focuses on cotton growth and seed milling to supply feed for cattle. Local leaders say rising cotton yields will create jobs, strengthen the economy, and lay a firm foundation for the town’s future.
Rufus Stump, a fire company member, left a barber shop with shaving lather flying as he raced to a reported fire. Children mistook the foam for his whiskers and thought he was Santa Claus headed north. The alarm proved a broken electric wire at Gem Grocery. linemen repaired the short circuit with little damage.
The WCTU of Deming met February 20 at the Maple Street Christian church. President Mrs C C Rogers opened with a prayer, readings followed, and minutes were read. A committee led by Mrs Siler was formed to plan yearlong programs. Rev B Brown gave an engaging talk. A motion urged Rep P A Hughes to back Senate Bill No 16. A donation to the Francis E Willard School at Santa Fe was ordered. Next meeting March 6 at Mrs Siler's home.
