Banquet Held By Border Game Protective Association

The Border Game Protective Association opened with a venison supper at the Deming Armory attended by 10 guests. A 126 pound dressed buck donated by 14 year old Benjamin Sherman was the feast centerpiece. Grace B. Melavin spoke as state game warden guest of honor. Receipts of 110 dollars were given to Deming Woman's Club for a municipal Christmas tree near O'Leary's Corner. Secretary Russell Cooper reported hunting activity data from the past season.

Frank M Peters Buried After Fatal Meeker County Crash

Frank M Peters of Hurley was killed in a Ford crash on Fort Bayard road near Silver City. Four occupants, including Peters, were returning to Silver City for Elks initiation when the car skidded on slick snow, Peters dying en route to hospital. The party’s other members suffered only minor injuries. Peters was 63 and long-time resident of the Deming/Hurley area.

Destruction of Liquor at Columbus New Mexico

United States Marshal Secundino Romero and Deputy J H Breen destroyed about 100 gallons of intoxicating liquors seized at Columbus New Mexico. Officials report over a thousand gallons destroyed in the past year at Columbus.

Permit Refusal Stops C C M Railroad Plan

The Interstate Commerce Commission on the 13th refused a permit to build a 660 mile railroad by the Colorado Columbus & Mexican to run from Columbus to Farmington New Mexico with branches to Springerville Arizona and other points. The Santa Fe opposed the project claiming public need was insufficient, while the commission cited excessive cost and scant local investigation. The ruling blocks the proposed line and any Mexican extensions, affecting development prospects for a largely undeveloped timber, mineral, and farming corridor.

Work Held Up at Wells in Angelus and Florida Ol Wells

Work has halted at the Angelus and Florida ol wells for two weeks. Driller Clinton left on a scouting trip with Los Angeles geologist Mr Nichols and has not reported back. Almy holds the fort awaiting Clinton’s word. The Plaida ordered 500 feet of cable from Pennsylvania two weeks ago and expected delivery by Wednesday but the cable has not arrived yet. Once received, drilling will resume. Peterson in town usually crafts tools locally but could not make the cable this time, causing the delay.

Deming Loses to Newton in Hard Fought Basketball

Deming High boys fell to Newton High 18 8 in a fast, clean game on Monday night. In prelims, the Sophomore-Senior girls beat the Freshman-Junior 10-9. A Gila Academy game was postponed. A Cambray school program featured displays and songs by Miss Josephine Stet and students with Christmas items.

Big Christmas Tree Ready in Deming Square

Readiness for a community Christmas tree under the Deming Woman's Club in the square at O'Leary's Corner. Santa and Mrs Santa Claus will distribute gifts to boys and girls next Sunday at 6. The city council funds the tree. Kissick of Deming Ice and Electric will light it. Camp Fire girls assemble bags, J Schurtz leads carols, High School orchestra plays with three saxophonists. The club seeks names of families needing Christmas dinners and postponed vaudeville until after holidays.

Deming auto camp praised by travelers in Sedan

Dr Frey W Wells and M i Hartzell of Sedan Kansas toured to California and bought an auto camp site in Woodland for 20000 dollars. Wells spoke at the Woodland Lions noon luncheon praising a Denang New Mexico auto camp as excellent and unmatched on their journey.

Christmas Holiday Schedule and Civic Notices

Central School notes announce Christmas holidays from December 21 to January 2. Teachers presenting a Friday afternoon program include Mrs. Davis and several Misses. Staff visiting relatives span Houston Tucson Bisbee and Deming. Camp Fue Girls collected donations for the Woman's Club, with missed households asked to deliver items Saturday. Liodes Camp Five held a Thursday meeting at Wilma Bar racks with Christmas stories poems legends and a candle ceremony followed by refreshments.

Brake man Harry Huffman dies from injuries in Lisbon wreck

Matty Huffman, SPS brake man injured at Lisbon New Mexico near the wreck scene, died Tuesday night at 9 40 in Hotel Diablo El Paso where he had been treated after the accident. He fell between mountain carts while closing ventilators on fruit express cars, suffering a crushed left leg and a mangled right foot. He leaves a widow and five children in El Paso.

Mountain View School Christmas Exercises Tonight

Cavalry Dance on J1aT in Deming with Syncopaters

The local Cavalry organization of the New Mexico National will hold a dance Thursday night December Sig. They engaged the Syncopaters of Silver City to provide music. Manager Spitssey added new members to his orchestra, bringing five to seven pieces for the event. Mrs Ellen Vellandigham, who has been in Chandler Arizona for months, arrived in Deming for a few days likely to stay over the holidays.
