Farmers form oil buying cooperative in Deming
A mass meeting of farmers in Deming New Mexico organized the Farmers Cooperative Oil Buying Association to pool buying power for 1918 fuel oils. Officers elected are E D Osborne president and S J Smith secretary with 1500 horsepower represented. A Dec 28 meeting at 1 pm at the Court House will decide on forming a cooperative stock company with shares at ten dollars each.

Women’s Club Entertained Despite Adelphi Renovations
The Women’s Club met Tuesday at the Adelphi Club rooms under renovation. A Jaeger of Leras Candy Co hosted with refreshments, about forty five members attended, and acting presidents Mrs. A. W. Sloss and Mrs. A. A. Temke presented each member a Christmas card. The next gathering is scheduled for the first Tuesday in January.

Capitalist Visitor Jiggs Donovan Trapped in Deming
Reported in Deming a financier and self styled wealth bearer known as Jiggs Donovan faced Judge C C Rodgers on a vagrancy charge. Donovan claimed large time deposit money in seven eastern banks and said he was busy earning five to six dollars an hour. He was released on condition he leave town but Casey Jones blocked his departure and he remains confined in the focal jail awaiting a decision. The Headlight suggests using him as the Christmas burro in a roping contest.

Deming Melon and Produce Association Formed with 200 Acres Pledged
The Deming melon and produce association organized Saturday at the Chamber of Commerce. Officers elected: Ralph C. Ely president, J. R. Williams vice president, W. E. Holt treasurer, R. Bedichek secretary. About 200 acres pledged to cantaloupes for the coming season with Edward Byrnes of Chicago named selling agent. Ed Byrnes previously marketed La Junta melons earning farmers a net 4 cents per melon. Discussion of hiring an agricultural expert for the valley, with $1000 from the crop improvement committee and another $1000 hoped locally.
