Twelfth annual meeting of Deming Chamber of Commerce

The Deming Chamber of Commerce holds its twelfth annual meeting at Manhattan Cafe on Tuesday December 13 with a banquet and year one reports. Election of a new board of directors plus president and treasurer will occur that evening. only members or those declaring intent may vote. Tickets for the banquet are on sale at local banks and the chamber office.

Will Retain Leases On In Hospital Site

Deming Chamber of Commerce has instructions from the official of the public health service to retain the grounds where the hospital stands at Camp Cody until March 30 1929. The government will pay rent on the land amid negotiations that now proceed the sale of the hospital building to the Catholic church.

Florida Oil Co Votes to Guide Well Work Plan

The Florida Oil Company stockholders met at 123 North Gold Avenue to authorize the directors to decide how to proceed with the Florida well north of town. A two thirds representation approved giving the board authority to pursue either outside contracting or in house drilling, as the next steps are discussed. Oil was reportedly shown at 1400 feet and again at 1565 feet, with geologists noting positive indications of oil in the formation. The board will reconvene next Tuesday to finalize the course and announce the plan to stockholders.

New School Building Nears Completion at Oldtown

C J Jones, local contractor, nears finish on a new adobe schoolhouse at Oldtown for Lina county school board. The 20 by 30 foot interior building meets a year end delivery, with furniture to be installed before after Christmas holidays. Two more schools of similar plan are planned at Spalding and the Trufilo ranch near Oldtown.
