Parcels Post System Aims to Reach Nation Wide Use
Excerpt notes Postmaster General Hitchcock pressed Congress for a nationwide parcels post with a $750000 appropriation to start by 1913. The plan sets weight limits from four ounces to eleven pounds and zones mapped from each post office for delivery. Proponents argue it will cut living costs and boost rural access to city goods while merchants fear competition.
