Parcels Post System Aims to Reach Nation Wide Use

Excerpt notes Postmaster General Hitchcock pressed Congress for a nationwide parcels post with a $750000 appropriation to start by 1913. The plan sets weight limits from four ounces to eleven pounds and zones mapped from each post office for delivery. Fatal Fall From a Mule Claims J. W. Ferguson

Fatal accident occurred Tuesday when J. W. Ferguson was thrown from a mule while riding into town. The horse animal frightened and broke his neck. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mahoney undertaking parlors. Ferguson, a Mississippi settler east of town, leaves a wife and a large family, who receive community sympathy.

Wreck of Freight Train Near Lordsburg

A westbound Southern Pacific freight train wreck near Lordsburg injures three crew. Engineer Lawrence Abell dies before hospital transfer in Tucson while fireman W S Hooson and brakeman A G Mast suffer minor injuries. Traffic rerouted over El Paso and Southwestern. Dr E M Paine of Deming tends to the injured.

Deming Chamber Boosts Growth with Onion and Chili Farming

R. W. Doak, new to truck farming in Deming, yields 20000 lb of onions per acre at two cents a pound and 300 bushels of sweet potatoes per acre. He praises chili as best crop while others doubted, and the Deming Chamber of Commerce plans its third annual dinner at the Harvey House with a strong membership push and notices.

Supper and Bazaar by Ladies' Aid Society

The Ladies' Aid Society of the Christian Church will hold a general supper on Wednesday evening December 11 starting at 5 PM at the old Mahoney building on Silver avenue. The menu includes roast beef and gravy mashed potatoes and more. A bazaar opens at 2 PM Wednesday and runs all day Thursday December 12 with fancy articles and hot biscuits.

Walter Van Meter Breaks Leg Testing Motorcycle

Walter Van Meter suffered a leg fracture in three places when his trousers caught in a motorcycle chain during a test ride last Saturday. Doctors Steed and Hoffman attended the injury, and Walter says he does not want the machine now. Advertisement for Deming Lumber Co. follows.

Joe Lincecum regains ownership of the Sideboard restaurant from M. C. Tidmore and plans interior remodeling including a nonred dining area and a closed kitchen. Tidmore and son Dick Tidmore will focus on mining interests.

The Women’s Club meeting at Adelphi Club rooms featured Hon. Ralph C. Ely speaking on civic improvement. He urged reform of schooling to reduce gender disparity and warned against water contamination from cess pools while stressing societal betterment and citizen pride.
