Full returns show strong support for the Luna county high school in Deming with Columbus vigorous backing. The state superintendent commends Luna county and urges paper support, noting the vote elevates educational prospects for the region and future social and industrial efficiency.
Rev Leonidas W Smith former rector of Church of the Good Shepherd will marry Corrina Gertrude Hanes on the 22nd at the bride’s home in Zanesville Ohio. They will then go to Elgin Chicago Willamette and New York before residence at Fort Bayard and Santa Fe with stops to visit relatives along the way. The bride was an instructor at Deming High School until recently.
Exposition managers meet in Santa Fe to elect leadership for the Panama California Exposition 1915. Colonel R. E. Twitchell becomes president and M. A. Vigil secretary while Governor McDonald presides. Board emphasizes strict economy and plans NM building designs in the Spanish mission style.
Captain Edward N. Macon of Washington DC, a retired U S Army officer, is named professor of military science and tactics at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts to replace Major Charles P. George who is relieved by the War Department for ill health. Macon comes from Fort Union Military Academy Virginia where inspectors report his work as excellent and will arrive at State College in late August.
The Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co. installs a modern exchange in Deming, makes district HQ changes from Las Cruces, and replaces surface wires with underground cables. A new building rises as seventy five workers solidify the upgrade, with Baptist hosts sharing a social Peanuts hunt and party games at the Samuels home.
A. G. Spalding rebuts reports of a baseball player school tied to Charley Carr. He says he is overwhelmed by old-time player applications while developing land near Deming for a health resort and farming community named Spalding, with athletic fields planned. Local publicity confirms he did not spread the tale.
The Headlight notes new arrivals with a son at the home of E. L. Rue bush on Saturday morning and a baby girl at the home of RB L. Miller on Toney morning. R. H. Fishive reported the birth of a son at his home on Saturday morning.
George W. Kable of Berkeley California has been appointed assistant in irrigation engineering at the State College and will begin duties on September 1. He is described as an irrigation engineer with excellent training and experience.
A church board let a contract to Gus Wehrhoener for an eight room brick parsonage with modern appointments on the current site. Bids varied by eighty dollars. the building is planned to cost $8500 and work starts immediately.
Mrs A D Hyder forty one died at her home in Deming at 4 oclock Thursday afternoon and was buried Sunday at 3 from the Rawson undertaking parlors. She came from West Plains Missouri eighteen months ago and leaves two sons Hugh and James a married daughter Mrs Grady Holmes of Plains Texas and her husband A D Hyder.
P W Pardon of Artesia New Mexico lost a purse with 22 dollars and papers while baling alfalfa. The purse was returned July 17 by Birmingham Alabama after a note from J W Merrihouse that it was found in Artesia alfalfa. Pardon sent Artesia peaches to the finder as thanks.
Resolutions note the death of our beloved Brother A J Clark in Woodmen of the World. The lodge expresses humble submission, mourning his loss and extends sympathy to his bereaved relatives. Resolutions to be recorded, published locally, and sent to the family by C J Kuby and E A Montenyorl.
A charitable notice records the Eastern Star chapter's resolutions honoring the death of Sister Snyder. It expresses mourning and sympathy, directs minutes to be copied, and sent to the family and local papers for publication.
Mrs. D. W. Inman of Dill Oklahoma arrives here yesterday for a lengthy visit with her sister Mrs. J. M. Carpenter. The party includes Cora Y. Steep J. P. McGrorry La Verna SH RMAN and others in attendance during the trip.
Local Heralds of Liberty met at the K P hall on August 21 under Grand State Organizer R C Howard. Officers were elected for the year and the youngest herald, 14 month old Samuel Barrick Howard, was admitted as a full member.
Pastor C. T. Finch will preach at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The morning sermon continues the Life of Christ series. Evening topic is Adoption. Sunday school at 9 45 a.m. Prayer meeting Wednesday at 8 p.m. Evening services switch to 7 30 starting first Sunday in September. All welcome.
