Rector Smith to Wed Miss Hanes in Zanesville

Rev Leonidas W Smith former rector of Church of the Good Shepherd will marry Corrina Gertrude Hanes on the 22nd at the bride’s home in Zanesville Ohio. They will then go to Elgin Chicago Willamette and New York before residence at Fort Bayard and Santa Fe with stops to visit relatives along the way. The bride was an instructor at Deming High School until recently.

College Appoints Captain Macon as Military Professor

Captain Edward N. Macon of Washington DC, a retired U S Army officer, is named professor of military science and tactics at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts to replace Major Charles P. George who is relieved by the War Department for ill health. Macon comes from Fort Union Military Academy Virginia where inspectors report his work as excellent and will arrive at State College in late August.

Deming Gets Underground Wires and New Telephones

The Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co. installs a modern exchange in Deming, makes district HQ changes from Las Cruces, and replaces surface wires with underground cables. George W. Kable of Berkeley California has been appointed assistant in irrigation engineering at the State College and will begin duties on September 1. He is described as an irrigation engineer with excellent training and experience.

Contract Let for Parsonage by Methodist Church

A church board let a contract to Gus Wehrhoener for an eight room brick parsonage with modern appointments on the current site. Bids varied by eighty dollars. the building is planned to cost $8500 and work starts immediately.

Deming Woman Dies After Brief Residence

Mrs A D Hyder forty one died at her home in Deming at 4 oclock Thursday afternoon and was buried Sunday at 3 from the Rawson undertaking parlors. She came from West Plains Missouri eighteen months ago and leaves two sons Hugh and James a married daughter Mrs Grady Holmes of Plains Texas and her husband A D Hyder.

Lost Purse Found in Artesia Alfalfa Bale

P W Pardon of Artesia New Mexico lost a purse with 22 dollars and papers while baling alfalfa. The purse was returned July 17 by Birmingham Alabama after a note from J W Merrihouse that it was found in Artesia alfalfa. Pardon sent Artesia peaches to the finder as thanks.
