Florida Well Progress Near 1700 Feet Amid Rain delay

The Florida well drilled to 1670 feet by 3 PM Wednesday before rain halted work. Shifts show red and gray sandstone layers, with a new walking beam expected soon. Drilling Cement Out Of Casing At Angelus Well

Last Sunday chief driller Mr Clinton began removing cement to shut off water at the Angelus well. By Tuesday night progress was slow due to the cement’s hardness from calcium chloride. Fifteen sacks were used in stages under 60 pound pressure, with a last batch forming a bridge near the bottom that complicates further drilling and may take days or weeks to clear.

Fire with slight damage at vacant Baldwin Place home

Firefighters answered at five o clock Wednesday morning to 1723 8 Platinum Street and extinguished a blaze with minimal damage. The Baldwin Place residence was vacant and the origin remains unknown, likely a short circuit. Firemen were out of the engine house within 20 seconds after the alarm ended.

Magee to Speak Here on Citizenship Tomorrow Evening

Carl C. Magee editor of the New Mexico State Tribune will address Deming citizens at the Baptist Tabernacle tomorrow at 8 pm on Citizenship. He will share insights on New Mexico conditions. Magee recently faced libel and contempt rulings at Las Vegas, later pardoned by Governor Hinkle, and is nearing the end of a state speaking tour with favorable newspaper coverage. Immense crowds have greeted him in past meetings. Public invited. a large audience is anticipated.

Lightning Strikes Hammon Home Nailing Birthday Party

The W N Hammon residence six miles northwest of town was hit by lightning last Thursday evening between six and seven. Miss Ida Hammon’s birthday gathering of seven friends and family escaped serious harm. a fire flue was blown out and the piano survived though the cooking range was demolished. Debris and soot filled rooms, but all parties recovered with nerves shaken yet thankful for the narrow escape. Mr Hammon rushed for town to buy an oil stove, as meals resumed after their stay with neighbors.

Trip to the Martin Ranch and visits by families

Mrs. F. C. Parrish and sons Frank Neil and Maurice with others toured the Harley Martin ranch Tuesday and enjoyed a noon dinner with Mrs. Martin and daughters Catherine and Eunice. Mrs. Gasaway and Tom Elkins left Deming Friday. Gasaway promoted to a higher Santa Fe position in Emporia Kansas, with visits en route in Trinidad.
