Community Service elects five member committee at armory meeting

At a Friday night armory meeting the Community Service committee downsized from nine to five members electing A A Temke M H Cain W H Orcutt Henry Raithel and Fred Sherman. The armory board will manage and maintain the building, with the armory to continue as a community center and pool operations to be self supporting. No further pledges will be sought after last year’s deficit was wiped out. auditing shows the group debt free as the incoming committee prepares to take over.

Precinct 1 Primary Called for Delegates

Clyde Earl Ely calls a precinct primary for Precinct No 1 to choose delegates to the Republican county convention at the armory on August 10 at p m. The county delegates will go to the state convention at Santa Fe on the 18th to nominate a U S senator candidate. Luna county will send eight delegates to the state convention.

Co operative Store Closes Doors After Writ Service

The Co operative grocery on North Gold avenue closed its doors Tuesday after a writ of attachment by James A Kinnear who attached stock and fixtures to recover unpaid rent. F Doderer as trustee prepared to dispose of assets for winding up under a trust deed made earlier this year but the writ halted the plan.

Deming Pioneer Pressley Allen Dies in California

Pressley Allen, an early Deming merchant who arrived in 1864 and opened a store, died last week at his Santa Ana home at age 84. He is survived by two daughters, one married to Col. J. W. Carter of Silver City and the other widowed from Joe Sheridan, former mine inspector and former editor of the Silver City Enterprise.

Santa Fe August 4 The Mett States Telephone and Telegraph Co filed schedules showing 20 000 additional annual revenue from September 1 rate increases. Albuquerque Roswell and Santa Fe residence rates rise 25 or 26 cents monthly. several cities gain 10 to 60 cent changes across one two and four party services. Several Class A exchanges see one party business and residence rises of 60 cents with four party service set at 2 dollars. some existing two party and certain rates are adjusted or eliminated.

Boy Scouts to Use Swimmimg Pool Two Hours Weekly

The Community Service committee approved allowing Deming Boy Scouts to use the town swimming pool for two hours on a chosen afternoon each week for the rest of the season. Heavy rains topple Bell hotel in Hidalgo county

Santa Fe August 4 Heavy rains caused the two story Bell hotel at Hidalgo county to cave in last Thursday. Hugh H Williams chairman of the corporation commission reported from Animas where an old timer since 1882 said the rains there were the heaviest ever seen. The adobe building collapsed after occupants were evacuated and no one was hurt.

Young Leaves for Coast for Two Weeks

Dr. G H Young departed yesterday for San Diego and Long Beach to spend two weeks on the coast. Mrs Young and daughter Marquita joined him. Road conditions forced him to abandon an automobile trip. Friend Roy Stratton came to see him off but returned to California the same day by train.

W Crawford Dies in Deming Funeral Held Monday

William W. Crawford, a longtime Deming resident, died at his home on Saturday after a months long illness worsened by a prior automobile accident. Funeral services were conducted by W. Roebush, with burial in the local cemetery Monday. He leaves a widow and a married daughter.
