Good Roads Picnic by Red Mountaineers

The Red Mountaineers announce a county picnic on Saturday April 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the north slope of Red Mountain. Red Mountain residents are invited for a day of speeches athletics and luncheon to raise funds for the ocean to ocean auto road along the first section line road of township 24. Bring basket lunches and join the fun to the limit.

Twenty members and nine visitors attended the meeting led by Mrs Edwards with topics on India including a reading on Pandita Ramabai. Iola Union Sunday School Holds Easter Program Delayed

Rain prevented Easter services April 14 so the Iola Union Sunday school moved its program to the following Sunday. The service featured hymns, solos, duets, a children’s pageant, and an Easter theme address by Rev. Foulks. Organist Mrs Linville was praised for the musical lineup and local residents spoke of community progress and congratulations to Frank Myers on his engagement. Garnett Gibson family visited their new farm and boiler pump setup with Layne & Bowler equipment. wishes for bumper crops were expressed.

Deming Honors Richard Hudson At Funeral Rites

All Deming residents attended the funeral for Richard Hudson the town’s oldest resident. He was interred with Masonic rites at Deming cemetery, noted as a fearless border fighter in Grant and Luna counties. The Deming Automobile Club posted road signs to guide travelers. Thomas S. Sheppard and F. Melville Dumond visited on their eastward trip to spur local investments. Superintendent J B Taylor reportedly cut his foot with scissors on Tuesday.

Deming Auto Club Pilot Reports Santa Fe Route and Road Conditions

R. H. Cage secretary of the Deming Automobile Association returned from Santa Fe as pilot for the California pathfinding car. He detailed the Deming to Albuquerque route with many town stops and noted road conditions including sand, mud holes, and a seven percent grade on La Bajada hill.
