Death claims E Carleton Clark in Albuquerque accident
E Carleton Clark son of W S Clark and a U S railroad administrator was killed near Albuquerque when a revolver discharged after being jolted from its holster. The New Mexico University student died at 6 p m after medical efforts failed. He had served in France with the American army and was a popular campus leader and athlete. His funeral was held at Deming’s Methodist church with Revs Childress and Foulks officiating.

Death of Mrs Jeffers Ward mourned in Deming area
A notice reports Mrs J J Jeffers formerly of Deming died recently in Las Vegas. Her husband managed the local telephone plant. Remains to be brought to Deming for interment with funeral arrangements to be made on arrival. Mrs Jeffers is recalled by many friends from her time in Deming.

Former Deming Resident Dies in California
Frederick M. Smith, a former Deming resident and California state senator, died in Los Angeles after a short illness. He lived in Deming in the early 1900s, worked in the grocery business with Isadore Fleischmann, and served as a justice of the peace before moving to Colorado and then California where he was elected to the state legislature. He was regarded by older Deming residents as a prominent figure of his era.

War Camp Community Service establishes centers in Columbus with a white soldiers Community House and a colored troops Khaki club. The Khaki club is a five story building with a large hall for recreation and dances. colored girls’ club planned for Mayden with showers and kitchenette. Mrs. A. V. Ted Cross carnival raises funds for soldiers
The Ted Cross carnival held Saturday afternoon raised more than 4800 to welcome back soldiers from the front and training camps.
