The Maple Street and Baptist Tabernacle churches outline Bible School, communion, sermons on The Prayer Life and The Deceitfulness of the Path of Sin, evangelistic services, and a baptismal program. Woman's Club Debates Punishment's Effect on Child

The Woman's Club of Deming met in the club room on April 6. A debate on whether corporal punishment destroys individuality split members, with Mrs Dial and Mrs Upton for the affirmative and Mrs Somerville and Mrs Griffin for the negative. Judges favored the negative after lively arguments. A discussion followed and plans for officer elections in May were announced, shifting to the first Friday. A post meeting social at the high school was proposed.

Protestants to Present Trees to Santorium

San Skidmore of the Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders urge all city denominations to donate shade trees rose bushes hedges and shrubs for the Holy Cross Sanitarium. Donated greenery will be transported Sunday at 2 pm from the Chamber to the Sanitarium. The public is invited to participate and bring plantings for the effort.

Reduced Freight Rate On Metals To Deming

A complaint filed with the State Corporation Commission led to a reduction by the Interstate Commerce Commission on metal shipments from Pittsburgh to Deming. The final rate is 1.28 per hundred pounds, 23 cents above the Paso del Norte rate, effective March 7, 1923, after ongoing efforts since February 1920.

Mrs Melaven Appointed Game Warden Visits Deming

Grace B Malaven the state game warden visited Deming for several days on official business. She appointed J A Bullen deputy warden for Elephant Butte dam territory to issue licenses and enforce laws. She also named license collectors in El Paso and announced a new non resident fishing license for one month at 1 25 dollars. She pledges strict enforcement and praises her appointment and work.

New Highway Filling Station Opens at Spruce and Silver

The Diala will open the Highway Filling Station on the corner of Spruce and Silver around the 18th. Mrs. Dial will handle management due to Mr. Dial's ill health. The lot is the K. P. lot and the business will offer gasoline oils and accessories. Mr. Dial says they have taken over Terry Garage gas pumps and accessories, with Mr. Terry to focus on repair work and auto storage. The location on the main tourist route is expected to draw local and tourist patronage. the couple have lived in Deming ten years and have many friends.

Vasques-Chaves Dramatic Society Formed in Campania

A new dramatic society named Comipatiia Vasques-Chaves, linked to the Girl Scouts and Sociedad Alamo, debuted with a three act comedy La Muerte Moral and a farce Grecian dios que esta puesta la Méex at Sala Aquinas last Saturday evening. The group plans a repeat performance on Thursday April 19 at 8 o'clock.

Shingle Nails Strewn Along Highway South

Deming residents and visitors from Silver City Fort Bayard and Hixley traveled to Palomas Mexico and Caumhus IM to attend events. Tire damage was caused by nails littering the road with cases of one puncture to many.

Land Near Las Cruces Sells At 500 Per Acre

A. Trujillo sold two acres of land about two miles from Las Cruces for 1000 total, at 500 per acre. The irrigated tract, aided by Elephant Butte dam water, shows high value, but the writer notes water costs differ and Deming land with own irrigation may be cheaper to operate. Deming will soon have a Rotary Club with Attorney A W Pollard as organizing chairman. A charter has not yet been applied for but local business leaders signaled interest, indicating the formation is near. J. J. Smith Dead After Long Santa Fe Service

J. J. Smith longtime Santa Fe employee and flagman at the Gold Avenue crossing died at Albuquerque hospital at 1 20 Friday morning. Mrs. Smith sails to Albuquerque to escort his remains to Toronto Kansas for burial. He had suffered extended illness, stomach trouble cited as cause. Two daughters in California and a son in Clovia New Mexico were notified. fate of their travel to Kansas unclear. He was well liked after years in the community.

The Deming 8th Cavalry base ball team defeated Comartes 10 to 0 last Sunday at Astoria. The squad has won all games this season and plans to face Hurley at Hurley next Sunday. The team shows strong form and solid home performances as they prepare for further prep matches.

Angelus well reaches 3365 feet in oil territory near Florida field

The Angelus well reached 3365 feet last Tuesday with oil indications growing and the pipe clear. Drillers Clinton and Gelzer report improving indications while a large oil pay zone is predicted between 350 and 3400 feet. The Florida well sits at 1012 feet, gumbo delays continue, gas evidence persists, and cable was spliced adding over 300 feet as observers await further news.

Chamber of Commerce meeting discusses attracting farmers
