York Chapter Red Cross 1933 activities overview

Disaster relief for August flood aided six hundred families with no outside funds. Ex service claims advanced under new law. unemployment relief included twenty thousand dollars in flour and fifty thousand dollars in cotton goods. Life saving taught to 100 plus, First Aid rising demand, Junior Red Cross expansion planned for 1984, home hygiene courses by Red Cross nurses.

Temple Workers Hold Meeting at Cardiff Home

The Temple Workers of the Rehoboth Welsh church met at Mrs. Ernest Roberts’s Cardiff home. Mrs. Hugh R. Evans presided as the meeting opened with a list of attendees including Mrs. John Hammond, Mrs. Kate Edwards, Mrs. Vernon Knopp, Mrs. Robert C. Roberts, and many others.

Scout Meeting Held by Troop 47 in Delta Pa

Troop 47 Boy Scouts of America in Delta Pennsylvania met Monday evening November 20 1933 under Scoutmaster Prof R K E Barnhart. After reciting the Scout Oath in unison a brief business session reviewed tests for a future Court of Honor and the group adjourned to meet again on Monday evening November 27.

Southern Pennsylvania Power Company employees hosted a farewell party for Mrs. Lester Williams at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Gorrell. Aged Delta Woman Sustains Burns in Kitchen Accident

Mrs Ellen Lark of Delta, aged ninety, sustained burns on her right hand while asleep beside a stove in her kitchen. Neighbors gave first aid before Dr William Arthur of Cardiff transported her to York hospital. Her condition was not reported as serious.

Fatal crash kills York restaurant operator W. Oscar Hoffman

W Oscar Hoffman owner of a York restaurant died Thursday when his car collided with a heavily loaded stone truck on a state highway between Red Lion and Dallastown. The truck was driven by Charles Ruff. the impact sent Hoffman's car about 500 feet beyond the truck. The coroner planned an inquest upon his return to York.

Foreign Missionary Society Meets at Mrs Garber’s Home

The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Delta Methodist Protestant church held its regular monthly meeting at Mrs. George Garber’s home with President Mrs. James Crawford presiding. Secretary Alta Hughes and treasurer Winifred Harvey reported, and a letter from Mrs. Paul Warner in the foreign field was read while refreshments were served to members including Mrs. Walter Cantler, Mrs. Robert Williams, and Rev. B F Ruley.

Delta Teacher to Attend Convention

Miss G. Alice Wheeler of Delta is named as a delegate to the Pennsylvania State Educational Association convention to be held in Philadelphia on December 27 to 29. Delegates were chosen at York meetings on October 28 and November 4. All delegate expenses will be covered by a countywide assessment on educators.

Statevide Church will hold its annual turkey and chicken dinner after the service on Thanksgiving Day. Prices for meals are 60 and 23 cents.

Robbers Enter Harris Bros Store In Cardiff Night

Thieves pried open a basement window to enter Harris Brothers Department Store and stole about one hundred dollars worth of goods. Similar break ins occurred at Heaps Motor Company and the Cardiff post office in the same building complex. Authorities on both sides of the line are investigating and have not released results.

The Cat Came Back at Highland on November 27

The three act farce The Cat Came Back was staged by the Social Service Club at Firemen's Theatre Friday night and will be repeated Monday at Highland church under the Missionary Society. Cast includes Gerald Gardner Nellie Fantom Tim Gallagher Mabel Ailes Leona Gardner Elizabeth Ailes Mrs Letitia Peters Peter Peters Lilly Doris Kelly Alonzo Jackson Billy Scanlon Ruth Thomas and others. Last day to register for load work collected

On Saturday November 25 representatives of the National Reemployment office will be at Telia post office from 9 to 11 am to register all who wish to obtain work on state and federal road projects under construction. All employed are urged to register as the reps cannot return to Della soon. In this district ninety three previously employed were registered.

Delta High School Economics Class Serves Dinner

The Home Economics class at Delta High School hosted a dinner Tuesday for parents and staff. Eighth grade girls served the meal under Miss M Case Moore, followed by a program with performances by Thélyna Roberts, Lara Payne, and Ruth Spidle, plus talks and readings led by Mary Fulton Sara Anna Moore and Miriam Weikert, directed by Miriam Weikert. Attendees included Prof A H Zimmerman Prof Swartz Mrs Joan Malone and many local teachers and families.
