Locals and visitors share weekends across Delta and surrounding towns. Baltimore guests include Misses Louise Robinson and Emily DeShield with Western Maryland College ties. others visit York and Rising Sun. Community members attend church events, bake sales, and family gatherings while noting travels to Western Maryland College and Maryland General Hospital.
Mr and Mrs William Thompson visit near Delta while other families from Chesapeake City and Drumore share calls with friends. The West Lampeter High School graduate Mary James is noted and a play cast enjoyed at William Browns with numerous local names. The day closes with Greider Sidwell visits on a Sunday afternoon.
The Ladies' Union prayer meeting will convene Tuesday evening May 30 at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs W W Sellers. Leader Mrs QO Heaps.
A successful child health clinic was held at Delta High School on May 17 under the Child Health Committee led by Mrs. A. H. Zumaerman. Dr. Samuel O. Pruitt of the Pennsylvania Tuberculosis Society supervised with York County TB support. follow up exams targeted 1931 tests with most pupils showing no active disease while some receive second chest checks. Parents accompanied pupils and consulted with Dr. Pruitt.
A fifth birthday party was given for Miss Helen Jean Wheeler daughter of Mr and Mrs J M Wheeler. Mr and Mrs Franklyn Humphreville of Newton Mass invite to the wedding of their daughter Catherine Humphreville to Rev George Van Eibbert Shriver The ceremony will be at Grace Episcopal Church Newton on Saturday June 3 at 4 oclock A reception will follow at the church Parish House On Wednesday June 21 the Rev Shriver will be ordained to the priesthood at Emmanuel Church Bel Air by Bishop Helfenstein He will later go to India as the first missionary of the Episcopal Ghureh in that country
The Social Service Club of Stateville and community will meet Friday evening June 2 at the home of Mrs. James Mackison Jr. The notice invites members to attend at the host’s residence for the regular gathering.
The Social Club entertained their husbands and friends at the LeRoy Rigdon home Friday evening with music recitations and games. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. O. KH Heaps, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Butler, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Stubbs, Rev. and Mrs. B. W. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Evans, and others.
Local Boy Scouts of America Troop 47 met in Firemen's Hall on Monday evening May 22. Scout Master Raymond Barnhart led the session opening with the Scout oath. After business, the meeting adjourned and tests were passed.
Miss Margaret A Roberts shows some improvement after a week of illness. Miss Helen Hickey visited schoolmate Margaret Miller. Mr and Mrs Thomas Davis with daughter Barbara spent time with Mr and Mrs Samuel Torbert. Howard Barbour remains ill but active. Mrs Beth Davies improves and Mrs Sydney Davies has returned from Philadelphia with Mrs C Jones. Charles Davidh visits sister and brother Margaret and Evan Roberts who were ill. Ars Jones and Mr Davis returned home Monday after Synod in Wil Barre.
Miss Marian Fisher of Delta is in the West Chester Teachers College graduating class. The schedule includes Class Day on Friday May 26 Alumni Day Saturday Bacalaureate on Sunday and commencement Monday. She will receive the B S degree in Health Education. She is a Delta High School 1929 graduate.
Memorial Day program to be rendered at Bryansville Church featuring singing of America God of Our Fathers and God Bless Our Native Land. Readings and recitations by James Kerr Jr Ralph McLaughlin Margie Ann Buff Romaine Kerr Romaine Morris and others with addresses by Rev C C Kreidler Rev Markley Rev B W Jones and Mrs S F Ruf. Treasurer’s report and benediction included.
Postmaster A. G. Dunlap finished annual inspection of three rural Delta Post Office routes totaling one hundred miles with four hundred forty four boxes. He found all boxes in excellent condition and roads in splendid shape for the phe carriers season. All carriers render satisfactory service with no cause for complaint.
Whiteford routed Jarrettsville 9 to 1 as Wesson McNutt starred on the mound and at bat. Lloyd and Morris sparked Whiteford with key hits and table-setters, while Heaps and McNutt led a strong offensive night. Whiteford also beat Highland 7 to 4 previously, with N McNutt overpowering M Wilson.
Miss Muriel Ramsay Presbyterian missionary of Swechow China completed a two thousand mile journey to and from a rural interdenominational evangelists conference at Tinghsien North China. Delegates included about 30 missionaries and native preachers. She reported inspiring progress in evangelism and fellowship and noted Japanese bombs near Peking during her travels.
The W. C. T. U. will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday May 21 at 2 20 P M at the home of Mrs Charles Myers Main Street A speech program will be given and special work will be taken up Members urged to be present.
Martha Washington Council No. 101 Daughters of America held a Monday meeting in Myers Hall presided by Councilor Ruth Sliver. Members planned the sixth anniversary celebration and a Saturday hike arranged by Miss Hulda Smith Mrs Nellie Glasgow and Mrs Wyvetta Tarbert with cars and lunch provided. The annual memorial service will be May 29 in the lodge rooms led by Mrs Jennie Wilson.
The Delta School Board re elected teachers for the coming term. High School principal A H Zim ineriman. Raymond B H Barnhart. Marian Strayer. Kathryn Diehl. M Elaine Lau. M Case Moore. Eleanor L Manifold. Mrs Mary I Jones. G Alice Wheeler.
Bryantsville residents including Mr and Mrs 8 A McKinley and Mrs A L McLaughlin with children Samuel and Ralph hosted and visited relatives with the Wilsons. The Fultons and Mouiton families traveled to York and Herrisburg to see kin while Mrs Alice Filter returned home to York after a visit.
Whiteford Mrs. George Jones visited Baltimore recently. Numerous families from nearby towns spent Sundays with relatives in the area, including the Glascows and Ramsays. Others visited Wilmington and Towson, with several attending weekend gatherings and hospital news.
Miss Julia Cowley entertained a number of friends at her home on Saturday evening for her birthday anniversary. After a pleasant evening, refreshments were served. Present were Minnie Bay, Margaret Scarborough, Eleanor Cox, Mabel Whiteford, Margaret Draper, Ruth Ruff, Reba Ruff, Carolyn Whiteford, Dessie Shaeffer, Helen McMillian, Mary E B Dunlap, Pauline Clark, Sophia Tobin, Frances Roberts, Marie Harvey, and Julia Cowley.
Rev Robert L Clark and wife Sarah R Green Clark celebrate 40 years of marriage at their Mews Park home. They wed May 17 1892 at Fit's Camp Maryland by Rev A Lewis Hyde. Clark served 24 years as pastor of Centre Church.
The Daecakutrente service for the Seniors of Deltaugh was held by the Firemen. Rev. ee stranad gave the sermon titled The Authority of Christi. Holy orchestra performed as part of the program with readings and hymns by several participants.
