Social notes detail visits and homecomings among Delta residents and relatives. Names include Mrs Clarence E James of Lancaster County hosting relatives in Windsor, Miss Kathryn Stover from Shrewsbury staying with Miss Edith Fisher, and many others visiting Baltimore Philadelphia Detroit and Toronto connections during weekends and holidays.
Miss Cassandra Jones hosted the Delta Methodist Protestant Church Ladies Auxiliary meeting. Mrs. J. C. Crawford led the session with scripture and prayer. Officers elected include President Mrs. William Brown and Treasurer Mrs. Warren Pennington. A dime social is set for Thursday May 18 in the church basement with entertainment committee members named.
Inclement weather may send the Stateville C E group indoors but plans outline a six oclock gathering at the Chapel on Sunday May 14. The group will trek to the ridge above town for a marching hymn preludes with trumpets violinists and a youth choir. Paul M. Thompson will deliver a message for young people and friends.
The Cardiff Community Club held its regular meeting at Mrs. O. H. Heaps home. Mrs. W. % Arthur led the session with a business portion followed by program including song readings and sketches by Virginia Bulette Charlotte Pennington Florence Ross and Florence Minnich among others.
Two meetings for York County beekeepers are set for Friday May 1 at the farms of Walter M Carico Delta R D and David Cadwallader near Kralltown Washington Township. Prof B J Anderson bee specialist from Pennsylvania State College will discuss honey production bee management. He will also cover transferring colonies between hives at the afternoon session.
A reception was held at Mrs Beulah Jones Delta Saturday evening May 5 in honor of her son Elmo Jones and bride. Attendees included extended family and friends from Littlestown Lancaster and Littlestown area with many Jones relatives present.
The Salem M E church held Sunday school sessions led by Miss Grayce Taylor, Nord Glenn, and Miss Elizabel McLaughlin. A strawberry festival on the church lawn was planned for Thursday June 15 with many members listed as attendees and organizers.
The Social Club gathered at Mrs. Richard Rees's home on Friday afternoon. Attendees included Mrs. O. H. Heaps, Mrs. J.T. Gailey, Mrs. Howard Proctor, Mrs. Hugh J. Evans, Mrs. William F. Stubbs, Mrs. William R. Williams, Mrs. J. H. Stubbs, Mrs. LeRoy Rigdon, Mrs. Butler, with visitors Mrs. W. B. Arthur and Miss Rose Bower attending.
The Slate Ridge Church Sewing Society held its regular meeting on May 4 at 2 PM at Mrs Nelson A Heaps home. The program included songs scripture reading prayer reports and refreshments. Attendees listed include Mrs N A Heaps Mrs Walter Jenkins Mrs Walter Stewart and others.
A hotel hosts a spring chicken dinner with a $1.00 platter and a 75 cent option listed.
The Salem M. E. Church Ladies Aid held their regular Thursday meeting at Mrs. Wesley Kilgore’s home. Mrs. Samuel Haugh and Mrs. Daniel McGurk led, with Grace Glenn opening the business and a birthday postal shower for President Mrs. George McKinley, who has been ill. May’s meeting will open rainy day bags at Mrs. Channel Anderson in Airville. refreshments were served and many members and visitors attended.
Miss Eva Nora Wise celebrated her fifteenth birthday with a dinner at her home on a Monday evening. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. W W Chester Wise, Misses Margaret Malone Ruth Ruff Reba Ruff Dorothy Chandler Isabel Galbreath Lada Pyle Edna Wise Verna Wise and Masters Marshall Glenn and George E Chandlee.
The Men's Bible Class of the Delta Methodist Protestant Church will present a play titled High Brown Breach of Promise at the Whiteford M P Church on Thursday evening May 11. The cast includes Judge Goose Harris Perkins and many other named roles.
Peach Bottom Grange visited Lower Chanceford Grange No. 1845 for a May 2 meeting. Master J Walter Durham presided. A literary program followed with readings by Nellie Fantom Mildred Barnett Snodgrass and others including a presentation of the unraveling Gavel by Walter M Carico and original poem by Austin Rowan.
Whiteford and Jarrettsville nines start the Harford County baseball season at Whiteford on Saturday afternoon May 13. Star players include pitcher McNutt and catcher Hughes for Whiteford. A large crowd is expected. admission is twenty five cents. A full schedule and box scores will appear in the next issue.
A surprise party at Mr and Mrs George A Crook’s home in Shrewsbury celebrated Miss Edith Fisher of Delta, a New Freedom schools faculty member. Guests received a special delivery package of presents for the bride elect, with pink and white decorations and a miniature Maypole as the centerpiece. Refreshments were served.
The regular meeting of the Temple workers of Rehoboth Church was held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Miss Marietta Williams. A business meeting preceded refreshments. Attendees included Mrs. W. W. Williams, Mrs. William R. Williams, Mrs. W. M. Williams, Mrs. Edward Stewart, Mrs. Richard Rees, Mrs. Alonzo Wilson, Mrs. Hugh R. Evans, Mrs. Hugh J Evans, Mrs. N. M. Scarborough, Mrs. Kate Edwards, Mrs. Annie Jones, Mrs. Anna Griffith, Mrs. Fleming Evans, Mrs. Mary Ann Evans, Mrs. J. Robert C. Roberts, Mrs. Thomas Bradley, Mrs. W. A. Heaps, Mrs. Robert L. Roberts, Mrs. Vernon Snap, Mrs. Timothy Morgan, Rev. and Mrs. John Hammond, Misses Elizabeth Williams, Enid Lewis, Mary Frances Wilson, Marietta Williams, and Master Edward Stewart.
Delta High announces senior activities for 1932 33 with the senior play Miss Adventure at Firemen's Theatre on May 11 and baccalaureate on May 21 led by Rev B W Jones. Class night May 25 and commencement May 26 include awards and address by Rev Alien B Meek with Ten Commandments for High School Graduates.
William Augustus Wheeler, 76, died after fourteen years in Havre de Grace hospital. A Harford County native, he chaired county finances and served as clerk to the county commissioners for fourteen years. He was active in Esdraelon Lodge F&A M and Highland Presbyterian Church. He leaves a son, sister, and brother. Funeral Friday at Bel Air and Highland Presbyterian Church.
Members of the Lions Club gathered for a banquet at the Yorktowne Hotel on Tuesday evening. Attending couples included Mr and Mrs William J Fisher, Mr and Mrs Paul Lefevre, Mr and Mrs Marshall Heaps, Mr and Mrs Wilson Heaps, Mr and Mrs A H Graybear, Mr and Mrs Robert Neety, Mr and Mrs E G Ruf, Mr and Mrs Mantz Hyson, Mr and Mrs Ross Wiley, Mr and Mrs Ross Anderson, and Mr and Mrs S Lanius.
The regular monthly meeting of the Home Missionary Society of Delta Methodist Protestant Church was held Monday evening at Miss Cassandra Jones’s home. Attendees included Rev. and Mrs. Ruley, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Cantier, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Chuytte, Mrs. Perkins, Miss Boswell, Mary Brown, Fight Lytle, Marian Crawford, Cassandra Jones and Howard Harvey.
The Lower Chanceford High School will graduate fourteen pupils at annual commencement exercises. Baccalaureate at Pine Grove Church May 21 with Rev J M Pheasant delivering the sermon. Day exercises May 22 at 8. Commencement May 28 at McKendree Church. Graduates listed. Margaret Pomraning to deliver valedictory. Salutatory planned for May 25 26 Washington and Beant Vernon trip. Jones Association to host 1923 class guests May 31.
