The World's Day of Prayer was observed in the Chapel by Slate Ridge Slateville Rehoboth Presby terian Delta Methodist and Delta Baptist Churches. Mrs. John Hammond led. an organ prelude by Mrs. Arthur Robinson opened a program of songs Scripture readings and prayers. Prayers for Africa Central Europe China Judia British Isles and the nation were offered. A poem read by Alma Macomber and others. a Christmas service among emigrants and cooperation with American Indians were included. A solo by Ethel Robinson enhanced the well attended gathering.
The Slate Ridge School P T A met Monday with John Bay presiding. Anita Heaps reported on the last meeting and the monthly dental clinic. Plans to organize a school band were discussed. H H Wilder and William E Baxter spoke. Prof A H Morris of the Fawn Grove Band addressed attendees. No action was taken.
The Temple Workers of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mrs. William M Williams in Cardiff on March 8. Officers chosen include President Mrs Hugh R Evans, Vice President Mrs Annie Jones, Treasurer Miss Marietta Williams, and Secretary Miss Myra Williams. A social hour followed with many members present.
The Slateville Presbyterian Session recently elected the incumbent Sunday School officers. Henry C. Whiteford is superintendent and H. Dale Malone assistant. Curtis Johnson serves as treasurer, with Delta Chapel and A. G. Dunlap as superintendent, W. J. Cowley as assistant, and Mrs. William Walter as treasurer.
Miss Helen Lytle hosted the Slate Ridge Char Chapter gathering at her home on Saturday. President Mrs M Baxter conducted devotional exercises. Members read study book chapters by Mrs Walter Jenkins Mrs M Dooley Mrs Lester Wittidna and Miss Beryl Wyman. Officers elected Miss Beryl Wyman president Miss Evelyn Grove and Miss Gertrude Orr vice presidents Miss Helen Lytle secretary and Mrs Walter Jenkins treasurer. A social hour and refreshments followed with attendees including Mrs Luther Heaps Mrs Henry Mobley Mrs M F Baxter Mrs Albert Peele Mrs Walter Jenkins Mrs Everett Bulburn Mrs Lester Williams Mrs Charles Lytle and Misses Cassandra Jones Beryl Wyman Helen Lytle.
Mrs. Stanley Ames hosted a card party at her Cardiff home on Friday afternoon attended by Mrs. Rupert I. Stubbs, Mrs. Clayton Lowe, Mrs. Howard Hamilton, Mrs. Lane R. Whitaker, Mrs. Floyd Wyman, Mrs. Cc M. Baet, Mrs. Harvey Sidwell, Mrs. Howard Froctor, Mrs. J J Healy, Mrs. David Pyle and Mrs Steward Dooley.
The Home Missionary Society of the Delta M. P. Church met with Mrs. Charles Brown on Monday evening. A covered dish luncheon was served. Devotional exercises and a business session followed. Present were Mr. and Mrs. George Canter, Mrs. Warren Williams, Mrs. Alta Hughes, Alma Macomber, Laura Boswell, Cassendra Jones, Marian Crawford, Dorothea Caniter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown, Warren and Edward Brown, Howard Harvey, Edward Boswell, and Ralph Gantler.
A group of ladies from the vicinity gathered at the home of Mrs. Annie Plummer in Forest Hill Maryland for a luncheon in honor of Mrs. Harry Z. Heaps. Attending were Mrs. Harvey Sidwell, Mrs. Clayton Lowe, Mrs. Chauncey Lowe, Mrs. Guy Scarborough, Mrs. Gerald Heaps, Mrs. Osborne Heaps, Mrs. J. J. Healy, Mrs. Arlie Plummer, and others.
A spring chicken dinner is scheduled at the hotel this Sunday featuring a 310 platter for seven thousand dollars. Proceeds and event details are listed by the organizers for community attendees.
A celebration hosted by their children honored Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Brown on their fifty second anniversary. Family and friends gathered at the Browns’ home for a pleasant evening with attendees including D Reed Wilson, Ruth and sons David and Lawrence, T Ross Wiley and daughters Jean and Miriam, Ernest M Brown and sons Richard and Russell, William R Brown and children Harold Ruth Marie and Dorothy, Alice Cassell, Grace Wilson and Preston Baker.
Slateville Social Service Club met at Miss Edith Riley's home on Friday March 3. The session opened with The Old Rugged Cross, Scripture read by Rose Galbreath, and treasurer’s report by Mrs. B W Jones noting receipts for twenty c haryinals and a remaining balance. New projects discussed included a tennis court and clothing for an orphan. plans to pursue both with instant approval given to the tennis court and orphan clothing. A pantomime by Glenwood members and a paper dress model were part of the social hour, refreshments served, and a large list of attendees from Mrs. Alles to Miss Mary H Jones.
A card party to benefit the Mason and Dixon Library will be held in the Library Room on Friday March 17 at 2 PM. Local patrons are invited to attend for a fundraiser and social gathering.
The Delta Cardiff Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary hosts a card party Thursday evening at the CS LO Jones building in Delta. The Helta-Cardié Fire Company was called at 2 10 P M to the Gobblers Knob home of Millard Jones to extinguish a stubborn flue fire. They reached quickly and saved the structure from damage due to the overheated chimney.
A wedding was held at Hillcrest United Brethren Church Detroit Michigan on Saturday February 4 1933 at 3 30 pm. Miss Dorothy Watson married Martin Stokes with R E Watson father as proxy. Attendants included Elsie Stokes matron of honor and Pauline Bedell bridesmaid. Attendants Curtis Stokes best man and Robert Terhorst groomsman. Ceremony by Dr M K Richardson. Guests later dined at the bride’s home with music and gifts. The couple will reside at 870 Seward Avenue Detroit Michigan.
The Westminster Guild Circle of Elate Ridge Church met with Mildred Whitaker on Monday evening. Miss Darcey Melic led the devotional. Eleanor Stauffer sang four solos with piano by Wareey McKeon, and Martha Laer recited. Refreshments followed. attendees included Mrs Frocter, Mrs Whitaker, Darcey Mckee, Mildred Whitaker, Grace Wise, Virginia Bulette and Sara Lay.
The Bryansville Church Ladies Aid met at Joel and Mrs Swagert's Delta R D home on Friday. After songs and prayers a business session and program followed with recitations by Mrs Malone and Mrs Kileder, a Valley performance, and secretary's report. A social hour and refreshments concluded the gathering with many area residents attending.
