West Bangor Blaze Destroys Four Houses in Fire
In West Bangor a devastating fire destroyed four frame houses owned by Mrs. Henrietta W. Poe including the tenanted Williams residence. Fire crews battled heavy odds but saved neighboring buildings. Earlier, the Fire Company fought a chimney fire at Peter Baker’s home and a flue fire near Frank Kohlbus. Additional small blazes caused hurried runs with no serious results.

Gard Evans 19 son of Mr and Mrs W Fleming Evans died after a battle with the White Plague at Hamburg Sanitarium where he had treatment since last fall. A Delta High School graduate class of 81 he appeared on the honor roll for character scholarship and leadership and served as business manager of the Delta High News. Funeral services are planned Sunday at his home and Rehoboth Welsh Church with interment at Slateville Cemetery.

Two Country Blazes Keep Firemen Busy
Two fires in quick succession taxed the Delta-Cardiff Fire Company last Saturday. At Collinsville area Harry Leiphart’s shed room adjoining his house burned before noon but the main building was saved. a nearby shed escaped when embers caught it. At Arleston on Daniel D. Snodgrass farm a woodshed and outbuildings burned around 2:30 pm, costing twenty five fowls, with firefighters focusing on protecting remaining structures as the fire progressed.

Maryland Game Wardens Survey Wild Fowl Off Chesapeake Bay
Lee LeCompte of Maryland with W B Bell and Frederick C Lincoln conducted a wild fowl survey at the head of Chesapeake Bay this week. Data will go to the United States Biological Survey as part of efforts for a longer ducking season next year. They toured the Susquehanna North East Elk and other rivers checking reports of thousands of ducks and flocks of geese wintering in the north bay region due to mild winter. The Delmarva Eastern Shore Association seeks a three month open season with two shooting days per month, saying curtailment hurts hunt clubs and protections. The Theological Bureau has formed the association but no action will occur until the spring survey is completed.
