Molly Stark Wives Send Thirty Pieces of Silver to Senator Douglas

Alliance women in Stark County Ohio sew thirty three cent pieces between gauze to form a small transparent mat and mail it with a letter condemning Senator Douglas for role in the Nebraska bill. More than a hundred signers urge him to reject betrayal of liberty and warn of consequences for families. Alliance March 1, 1854.

New Hampshire Election Opens President's Eyes

Washington correspondent for the Tribune notes the New Hampshire vote impacts the President's view and the Douglas faction says the Nebraska question aided him there. The steamer Cleveland reports no ice on its Detroit to Cleveland voyage. Pennsylvania Whigs nominate James Pollock for Governor and Darsie for Canal Commissioner and Daniel M. Smyser for Supreme Court.
