Delphi Youth Recovers After BB Gun Eye Injury

Sonny Myers son of Mr and Mrs Bill Myers of 103 Harrison Street Delphi returned from the hospital after several days confinement from a BB gun eye wound. Three stitches were required though sight remained unimpaired.

Former Indiana trooper killed in plane crash near Lebanon

John Ray Miller, 35, an Indiana State trooper associated with Carroll county, died Monday evening when an Indiana National Guard plane crashed in a beanfield near Lebanon during highway patrol duty. Lt. Isaac Shell also died. Miller, a 1941 recruit promoted to sergeant in 1954, left a widow Marilyn Stockton and daughter Leslie Josie. Memorial services were set for Thursday in Lafayette.

Navy Recruit Wayne Fife Begins Four-Year Service

Wayne Fife of Delphi joins the Navy for four years and trains at Great Lakes after graduating Delphi High School in 1955. Bill Calvert of route 4 also trains at Great Lakes as a new naval recruit.

Delphi Democrats and Republicans file city election tickets

Democrats and Republicans in Delphi submit complete slates for the city election to be held November. The Democrats are led by Roy C. Clauser with Jesse E. Patrick as clerk treasurer candidate. GOP slate headed by incumbent Mayor Charles A. Wood with Arthur Ritchey as clerk treasurer candidate and several district council nominees. Ballots are being printed and absentee ballots available after Friday.

Bert Baker Named Cheer Club Member of the Week

The Delphi Lions pick Hubert Bert Baker of Logansport Indiana as Cheer Club member of the week. Baker, a retired Public Service Company employee who spent years with the gas company, had a leg amputated in July and has resided at the Thomas home at 1411 Michigan Ave.

Carroll County Council met Tuesday and Wednesday to review regular budgets and study requests for additional appropriations. They planned to reconvene to continue budget work but had not completed it by presstime.

Delphi Country Club held qualifying rounds for its annual golf championship. First round losers enter President's Cup matches with all first-round games due by Sunday night September 11. Roy Trobaugh Delphi Artist Buried After Stroke

Leroy Roy Trobaugh 77, Delphi artist famed statewide, died Sunday night at Deer Creek nursing home after years of illness following a stroke. Born January 21 1878, he worked as a railroad clerk, studied at the Art Students League in New York, and belonged to the Indiana Artists Club. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Elkenberry Funeral Home, Rev. Harry Parker officiating, burial in Masonic Cemetery.

Flora man dies while repairing TV antenna on roof

Robert B. Jordan 44 of Flora died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon while working on a TV antenna on the Lois Lehman home roof in Flora. Born December 26, 1910, he was co owner of Sparks and Jordan in Flora and active in several fraternal orders. He is survived by Isabelle Kuns his wife two daughters Madonna and Marianna his father Gillie Jordan one sister and two brothers Wayne Evans Joe Jordan of Los Angeles and Charles of Logansport. Funeral arrangements are at Carter funeral home Flora with services Friday at 2 p m conducted by Rev C A Stewart and burial in Maple Lawn cemetery.

Oracles Open Season Friday Against Hawks

The Delphi Oracles begin the 1955 football season Friday at 7 30 p m against the Sheridan Black Hawk six 27 to 6 over Carmel was the Black Hawks opening win. Adult admission 75 cents student 35 cents season tickets for four home games cost 2 75. Head Coach Tony Berto with assistants Robert Gordon and Royce Adams have the squad practicing since August 15. Delphi Enrollment Shows Increase

Superintendent Royce Kurtz announced the 1955 56 enrollment totals 981 students with 472 in grades 1 6 including Hillcrest and Monroe Street 133 in grades 7 8 and 377 in the upper four high school grades The prior year enrollment was 945 and two years ago it was 901.

District Lutherans to hold Delphi two day session

The Central Conference of the Indiana Synod U S C A comprising 28 Lutheran churches with 6000 plus members will meet at St Matthew's Lutheran church in Delphi on Tuesday and Wednesday. The session opens with Holy Communion at 2 30 p m Tuesday followed by a sermon by Rev Otto Friedman. Bloodmobile yields 89 pints in Carroll County drive
