Senator Ralston and Mrs. Carroll Miller with Mrs. Olive Beldon Lewis addressed Delphi Tuesday night. Miller attacked the Coolidge silence on public questions and explained tariff effects while Lewis urged a return to two major parties. The Great Western Canning Company of Delphi Indiana will pay four fifty per ton for ripe pumpkins delivered to their factory. Pumpkins must be ripe and ready to receive now.
The Grange shown at state meetings meets local life through public affairs committees and betterment programs. Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio and others report prizes, conferences and co operative efforts with churches and clubs to advance rural welfare and school improvement. Active Grange workers are community leaders inspired by Grange teachings.
Paul Hall and Eddie Sales were sentenced Thursday to two to fourteen years at Pendleton reformatory for robbery. Sheriff Mummert escorted them to Pendleton after their confession of breaking into Auto Top Factory Delphi Lumber Co and Hinkle Ayres garage. They escaped from a local jail before recapture and were held with other prisoners with restricted liberties.
G A Shaffer, cashier at Citizens National Bank and family man, motored to Indianapolis on Thursday for an unspecified trip or visit.
James O. Engleman, Indiana University 1905 graduate and Terre Haute public schools superintendent, served as toastmaster at the Indiana University alumni luncheon during the State Teachers Association meeting in the Riley Room of the Claypool hotel. He recently returned to Indiana after years in educational work in other states. Engleman formerly led Delphi Public Schools and was field secretary for the National Educational Association.
Engineers receive time extensions for reports on Wm. R. Griffith and Orville Goslee roads. Bonds totaling 1080 posted by superintendents for multiple bridge and road works in Tippecanoe, Rock Creek, Burlington, and Deer Creek townships. A vacate petition west of Tippecanoe river at Oakdale granted. Myers construction agreed. Kennedy and Willey bridge painting approved. Indiana Service Corp authorized to run power lines Flora to Camden. Pierce to widen David Brown bridge at 12 dollars per cubic yard. Viewers appointed for Wm. H Allen road and other local roads in Democrat township.
Mrs Mary B McReynolds of Washington DC will be at the Henry Wilson home in Delphi next Monday afternoon from three to six o clock for friends to call. She formerly lived here and taught in local schools and many relatives will be pleased to greet her at this occasion.
Harry New postmaster general spoke in Delphi at the courthouse on a cabinet member’s caution about misquotation. He touted support for the Republican ticket, noted Indiana alliances, and referenced farm prices with a disputed 18 cent corn figure. The Delphi visit drew little applause and touched on local politics and advertising themes from four years earlier.
When Postmaster General Harry S. New visited Delphi on Wednesday evening he was hosted at the home of Mr and Mrs EB Bowen. Attending guests included Charles Jewett I W Lemaux Ralph Lemeke Direlle Chaney and others from the area.
Autos will be needed Tuesday afternoon for the auto trip for Grange convention delegates. An entertainment will be held at the Presbyterian church before the ride at 2 30. Those furnishing cars should be at the church by that hour. The Flagler and Malia orchestra will perform at the church.
